We went up on Thursday and went tubing on Friday which was a lot of fun.
On gameday we went to the Alumni association tailgate at one of the barbecue places for a bit which was full of LSU people. Left there mid day to head to campus and try and find tickets.
When we got to campus, it was the least excited, engaging, and hospitable fan base I’ve come across. We even offered to pay for some beers from a few tailgates and none would do it. As the day went on, it got better, I was just surprised how they didn’t really want to engage with the visiting fans. It felt very corporate.
We tried buying tickets up until about 20 minutes before kickoff and finally just paid a scalper to “escort” us into the stadium. This worked out pretty well and we stood right in front of the LSU band and the ushers didn’t give us any trouble. I know there were a ton of other fans that did the same thing. The in game experience was the best part for obvious reasons, and I’d definitely do it again, would just have different expectations.

1. Positive, other than being regulated to the upper levels.
2. Not bad. Nothing special. Big time bottleneck before the game. Almost missed kickoff. It was hotter than hell.
3. Fans were much louder than I expected. Similar to SEC visiting experiences, a few douchebags, but most were respectful and congratulatory of the LSU offense after the game

They had the band Midland play outside before the game. That was pretty awesome. Sat in the end zone and had a great time. Surrounded by Texas fans but they were great to me. The stadium was pretty electric the whole time.

Yes but Austin has like 3x the people that BR has.

Legit question, and please be honest Kevin. Before Oates was hired, who was your favorite college basketball team? By the way, there are only 2 legit answers:
1) Alabama
2) I don't watch college basketball.
I have a suspicion (if you're being honest), you will say Duke or Kentucky. That, and any other answer other than 1-2 above is 100% front runner bullspit. Something tide, cowgirls, and Yankees fans are known for by the way.

Keep in mind Bama will only get 3500 or so tickets so it will be a very expensive hard ticket to get. I got UT season tickets to get the LSU game. Be sure to book a hotel downtown walking distance to the stadium

It’s always great going to a true OOC road game. We stayed on 8th and everything was in walking distance. From what I remember, the stadium itself wasn’t bad. We were on the 10yd line about 40 rows up. Bama will likely get the same treatment and be sent up into the heavens like LSU did. The fans were as to be expected. If they’re playing well, you’re gonna get heckled by a fair amount. For the most part, they weren’t too bad after the game. It was hot as frick for the game though so make sure to drink a lot of water with whatever your beverage of choice is.

Me and my buddies had a great time. Unlike others I thought Texas fans really brought it. They were incredibly cocky and literally think we are lesser than them though
The win may it much better. Had an old guy try and fight my friend after the game as we let them hear about the loss after. The put you up in the sky in some horrible arse seats though.
Plenty to do before the game. We went to 6th street and bar hopped. Then had a buddy we met up with outside the stadium who had a huge tailgate with a ton of food... And more importantly... SHADE. Man it was fricking hot as hell in the parking lot. Drink lots of water and stay in the shade as much as you can before the game. I had to go to the medical tent in the 3rd quarter because I had such a bad headache.
All in all great trip.

Great trip and game. Sat in the north end zone with a bunch of arrogant texas fans. The stadium was extremely loud and we stood almost the entire game.
Trying to get an Uber after the game was maybe the worst experience I have ever had after a game.

I plan on going to the Bama game there in 2022.
Go for sure, stay at The Driskill, walking distance and classy place with a lot of history.
6th St. in Austin is fun and you will have a great weekend.
Texas football will be back in 2022 and should be a good game for you guys.

We rented a house and spent a lot of time on 6th St. We had a great time. I think we surprised the Texas fans by taking over the bars and paying the bands to play Neck and other well known Louisiana songs. We got raped on tickets in the upper deck but it was a blast. The tailgating scene is not SEC like, lots of paid tailgates and the Texas fans will not invite you in to join them. The stadium is not loud at all. It is huge and it is nice but you sit way back away from the field in the upper deck.
Austin is a nice city but Expect to see lots of homeless people. The food and bar scene is really good
I enjoyed the trip with our group and would do it again
Now where do you tailgate in Tuscaloosa so we can talk more about this subject on Nov 6?

Austin is great. We stayed at the Holiday Inn on Lady Bird lake. Great location. We were able to walk to some great spots, including the game. Also, we took an Uber to some great restaurants. Music scene was great. Food was great. Scalped tickets online the morning of on Gametime…good seats in the end zone surrounded by ut season ticket holders that were UNhappy that one of their brethren sold out to LSU fans. They were most upset that so many LSU fans bought tickets in the Texas sections throughout the stadium. One mentioned to me it was the loudest he’s ever heard the opponents fan base. The tickets were the most expensive I’ve ever bought but it was worth every penny. Third and 17 was spectacular. I thought the game day atmosphere was great. You will have a blast.

Austin was great, but good Lord it was hot. Dry heat, as they say, but it stayed that way through the night game. The game day atmosphere was lots of fun. They had those rental scooters everywhere, and my group was a rolling advertisement for the abolition of them.
It was a lot of fun, but not nearly the atmosphere in Tuscaloosa, and nowhere near Baton Rouge.

I’d recommend staying away from Dirty 6th unless you’re a college student or in your 20’s. Check out West 6th or Rainey Street. Stay downtown if you can and walk to the game, as the UT campus is located on the north end. As they did with LSU, Bama will only get about 3,500 tickets and they will be located in the north endzone upper deck. It wasn’t always that way. It’s something the current UT AD started in an effort to make DKR more of a home field advantage. I can understand the reasoning, but it somewhat hurts the atmosphere, as it prevents opponents from bringing their full bands and it forces their cheerleaders to stand in front of the UT student section. One nice thing about the visitor seating is that, if the game is at night, you’ll have a great view of the city skyline.

It was Hot!
There is no tailgating. Go bar hopping to pre-game in downtown and Uber to Stadium.
Looking at the stadium, the exterior and size makes you better understand how much money the athletic department has in terms of donors.
It was nice and clean inside. Endzone was under construction, so not full capacity.
Fans talked down to us the entire pre-game and entry into the stadium. They shut their mouths walking out the stadium and didn't say a damn word afterword.
Like Tiger Stadium, you want to sit on the west side to get out of the sun but not too low that you get none of the breeze.

That’s the difference in them and us. LSU fans have a reputation for being rowdy and obnoxious but we always love to welcome visitors into our tailgates.

Questions:
1. How was the trip experience?
It was pretty good. Their campus tailgating blows with most tents being catered and very little mingling between groups. Pre-game at the Stadium itself.
2. How was the stadium?
Stadium was pretty decent. Outside of the stadium was fun with lots of food trucks, beer and places to mingle. Definitely get to where your bus will unload very early. There is a long walk from the bus to the visitor locker rooms and their fans surround the area to intimidate (maybe?). Not sure but they take over that area very early.
3. How were the fans?
They are typical Texas fans, aloofly polite, definitely arrogant and very bad losers. There isn’t much tradition of hanging out with visitors but they will chat politely if you’re around them in the seats, cheer & brag loudly then throw full grade fits when they start to lose.
4. I see the official visitors section is in the corner of the end zone upper deck....where they stuck the LSU band. I prefer to sit with the visitors. For those that sat up there, how was it?
We sat in the Letterman section so no idea here but visitor sections are ways about the traveling fans.
Even though you didn’t ask, you should have: It’s hotter than hell. You think you know heat being from the south but you will be in full sun for majority of the day and game. Prepare for it. They do have a nurse’s station there and it was packed with both fan groups all game getting iced down and getting sick.
