For you older guys, how big of an upset was this game? where would you rank it on a list of top LSU upsets of all time?

I'd put it #1 for upsets.

Bama was awesome, we were horrible.

Probably the 2nd-sweetest win over Bama ever for me- after the 9-6 'Game of the Century'

I f***ing love beating Bama. It really makes my year.

Hopefully, we can beat the f*** out of them again this year and watch them cry and hear about some of their redneck fans shooting themselves over it once again!

I just watched the rnolan53 highlights on YouTube.

Hilliard was frickin hilarious, pitching the ball all over the place. Reggie Bush could take some notes on how to pitch the ball.

LSU was coached by Curley Hallman and was coming off of a 2-9 season.

And still managed choked away an oppertunity to go to the CarQuest Bowl that year. And for thsoe of you who weren't aroung back then, yes, we were excited about a possible trip to the CarQuest Bowl.

Beating #2 Tennessee with a backup QB in the 2001 SECCG is the biggest upset in LSU history.

The Vols trace their downfall to that game.

Shoot, during DiNardo's time, the Outback Bowl seemed like a far off dream that was only vaguely possible. "If all goes well this year, maybe we can do better than making a trip to Shreveport! Maybe it can happen."

LSU was given virtually zero chance to win this game.
Serious overstatement. It wasn't "virtually zero"; it was "zero". I don't recall seeing or hearing a single person make an objective opinion on the game that involved any possibility of LSU winning. No one but the intentionally self-deluding Tiger fans (like myself) even joked about the possibility. Even after seeing it happen, I was in doubt as to whether I had really seen it. It was kind of like the Bluegrass Miracle, but for a whole game.

I was about 6 yrs old at the time and my family was living in Birmingham cause my dads job had relocated him. We were at that game and man it was fun although I barely knew what was going on.

My dad said it was one of his favorite games cause he got to talk so much shite at work on Monday.

I'd like to drink a beer with Curley. Bet he's a pretty decent guy, despite the coaching stigma.

I remember being so excited going into the Arkansas game that year. Then we just got run over.

Arkansas had 3 backs go for over 100 yards. The defense was so confused by the option the only tackles they really made all day were on people that didn't even have the ball.

Wasn't that the game Loup had like 16 straight completions or something?

ETA: Whatever it was I think it was a record at the time.

Yeah we rang up a bunch of passing yards. Arkansas obviously didn't need to pass.

that'd be like if Vaccaro started picking them off like that for the Saints and always found either Byrd or Bailey running w/ him... nice awareness by him to gain more yards on those INTs

but looking at the highlights... the Bama QBs were horrible... just really p-poor passes that led to those LSU INTs... overthrowing the receiver badly and right in the arms of Hilliard or another Tiger

nice win for LSU... and a 2-game winning streak
