That wasn't a tourney game. That was a neutral site game at the Meadowlands. We were up 21-9 at half, then blew it.

1977 - 1981 were great, great years. Young ones today can't imagine how big LSU basketball was. We were the rock stars of the SEC. And Dale led the band, great times.
Unless you were actually in attendance back then, it's hard to describe the atmosphere in the "Assembly Center" (PM hadn't been added yet) back then.

It was absolutely the rival of anything in Tiger Stadium, as far as anticipation and excitement level.

LSU students used to camp out on the AC ramps all the time for big games, sometimes for days at a time to get in first. (You were admitted with a Student ID back then; first come first served)

Dale Brown used to bring them donuts during the campout if I recall.

Luckily, I was in Basketball Band in 80 & 81 and didn't have to worry about getting a good seat........

Well that explains why I never knew about it. I feel like I’ve seen video of MJ dunking on LSU at Carmichael somewhere.

Yeah, we played them in Chapel Hill and the Meadowlands, never in BR (at least since 1977 when I started watching LSU). We absolutely should have won in NJ, and hung tough on tobacco road before the heels turned it on

Played them in BR in Feb 85. NC won it 75-70. As pointed out earlier, it was one of those games where students camped out on the ramp to get seats.

Great catch. Wow, I can't believe I forgot about a home game we played against the tar heels. I guess the memory is starting to fail me. That would make sense though, we had a home and away plus the neutral site game in NJ with them.

I was at that game. Their size (Brad Daughterty - 6'11 and Joe Wolf - 6'10" and some 7'1" guy off the bench) was too much for N. Wilson, J. Reynolds, and J. Williams, all 6'8".

True. And even since 1981’s loss to Indiana, there’s been at least 3-4 others (and maybe more) where LSU BB team lost to ultimate National champions. 2 that come to mind would be Louisville in 1986 and N. Carolina in what, 2007/8! (The dreaded 8th seed awarded to ranked team who won the SEC regular season title, “BY A LOT”!!! Still pissed about that. And we were the only team to scare N/C in the tourney that year!)

That was some fun teams to watch also. The Nikata jump hook was a thing of beauty and the ice man was lean and linky while John Williams was a load but could get up and down the court. Dale always got the best out of the average to good teams but never could get the great teams to the final four( Didn't see the 1980 team alittle before my time). The youngens today don't realize we expected to be in the dance every year back then.

That was a great game to see in person. I remember it was on a Sunday afternoon. I was in 9th grade and I remember thinking about that game during the late morning Mass I attended. It was on when I got home and never saw the early part of this game. This was before my family owned a VCR
EXACTLY the same for me, but I was in 10th grade. Went to church with the parents, sitting in the car itching to get home because I think the game started at noon, and we didn't have a VCR, so I also missed the start.

But a very exciting game and environment.
