You'd be wrong. Ensminger's value on this staff isn't measured in TE catches. It's measured on the recruiting trail where he helps identify offensive talent across the nation. He also helps in the overall offensive game planning, as LSU coaches have said time and time again they take a team approach each week.

I can't attest to Ensminger's coaching ability, but in both 2013 and 2014, you could frequently look at the middle of the field on many pass plays and see a TE streaking down the center of the field largely uncovered or in between the coverage zones. Cam does call plays that involve the TE's, but for one reason of the other, our QB's rarely look to them.

The number that stands out to me most is the 4 touchdowns. Our TEs have averaged less than 1 TD per year since Ensminger's arrival at LSU.

I think it's pretty naive to think the TE coach is responsible for the TEs usage in the passing game.

Can you name me any national diamonds in the rough that Steve E has found or brought on that made an impact with the Tigers.

We aren't talking the Hills, Fournettes, Tolivers, Randle..etc, etc. Because a blind man could evaluate and identify these guys as targets.

So who have we IDed that was under the radar. Think TM or Minter or White on D....the list is pretty damn long on Defense. Not so much on O.

The LSU scheme does not require the TE to catch passes since we mostly run the ball. That can hardly be Ensminger's fault.

Not sure why we don't throw more than we do to them but that is what Cam wants to do.

At least we have one person on staff who is an LSU Alum.

I don't get all the fuss over tight ends. For instance, last season who would you like to take touches from? I know if much rather have the ball in Landry, Odell, or Hill's hands. Those dudes are a lot better than anything we have at tight end.

This year I think we needed to concentrate on throwing for over 150 yards a game consistently.

Dickson and Smith should be able to help in that department by taking advantage of some play-calls and mismatches. Although I agree with you about last season.

Ensminger was the only coach smart enough to think we needed to call a timeout before the 4th down debacle at the end of the Auburn game in 2010 where Lee tried to scramble for 7 yards.

Ensminger has nothing to do with passes to our TE's. It's the fault of the Offensive Coordinator and head coach. Regardless of whether you have 3* and 4* signees, they aren't a threat unless the ball is thrown them more than a dozen times a year.

Maybe LSU just doesn't operate an offense that incorporates TE's as passing threats.

Just a hunch

We just added another TE in recruiting for like our 50th TE on the roster who will end up being an excellent extra T in the game.

It is hard to target TE's when you only throw it 15 times a game on average. Plus, how many times have we seen the TE wide fricking open and AJ waiting on TD to get open. Sorry to the OP but I ain't buying throwing Ensminger under the bus on this one. LSU TE's block very well and get open often, they don't get it thrown to them, whatcha gonna do?
