I vividly remember old Auburn posters being the ones who ran back and wrote book reports on how LSU fans basically lathered their wife's tits in mustard and corndog batter, then went to town.
they've always had the whole self-righteous attitude, whether it be the "Auburn family" or the "The Auburn way". With that said, I've been to Auburn multiple times and had a blast, and the favor has been returned when they come here. That nonsense seems to have toned down.
If we're being totally honest, I think LSU's success this century has really priced out "the average joe" that would be more likely to start an altercation, which is probably why LSU's reputation has improved significantly the past 10 years. I doubt it's mere coincidence.

I have to agree with this...tightening of admissions standards to LSU plus escalating ticket costs have absolutely changed the crowd that attends games...

I know the paying to park on campus moved a lot of trash off campus (thank god)
Nothing quite like walking down stadium drive at 10am hearing FROM THE WINDOWWWWWW TO THE WALL with your 5 year old niece beside you
Glad that shite is over with

I suspect most bad experiences happen AFTER games. Particularly emotional rivalry games. Especially if they are close.
However, I bet that the majority of these "bad experiences" come from people hearing some light hearted ribbing and taking it personal. I've been insulted and verbally attacked at every away game I have been to. It's part of it. However, every tail gate I've approached has been warm and generous.

Couldn't agree more!

I'd put our fan base up against anyone's, anywhere.
Friendly, cordial, and accomodating with food and drink........until they give us a reason not to be.

When I used to tailgate, anyone was welcome to beer and food. Would there be good natured ribbing? Yes, but they aren't the enemy.

I've always welcomed visiting fans with....
Tiger bait, then....
-A beverage
-A plate of food
-A shady canopy
-A chair or ice chest to sit on to watch early games on satellite
-A friendly but competitive game of washers
-An invite to my tailgate the next time their team comes to town
Also if they have kids with them, my 8 year old son usually makes most tailgates, and loves to have someone to throw the football with.

I have that same problem, they wished we played in TS every year...they were gawking at all the hot chicks, and they were all bundled up last time ags came to town...

We pretty commonly have visiting fans at our tailgate, and they are treated very well. Mostly business related. Surprisingly, the only bad experience I've had was with ATM fans.

We have some good friends whose son is going to be in the Aggie band this fall as a freshman. Our son will be in the GBFTL. Both these kids went through middle school and high school together and we thought it would be awesome to see the two play in TS for the Aggie game in November. The mom is absolutely terrified to visit Baton Rouge. Dad not real warm to the idea either. We can't get a real rational reason out of them for the fear other than those people are crazy down there.
I think it must be some sort of urban myth that Aggies perpetuate among themselves that they will get abused.

I feel uniquely qualified to answer having lived in New Orleans and College Station and gone to some games in purple and others in maroon.
In maroon I can honestly say I have not been randomly invited to join ayones tailgate or even offered a beer while walking around campus.
A couple years ago I was there for an Auburn game in purple. We walked across campus with an old Auburn couple in their 60's giving them directions. A drunk student came up and cursed this old couple out like I had never heard. We backed the guy up and appologized. There were pretty shaken up.
Last year I took my wife and son to their first LSU game in maroon. No issues at all walking across campus or in the RV lots until we went to a tailgate of a friend of mine. I went to the restroom and a guy gave my wife and son shite for being in their tent. On the way into the stadium we caught a couple "F" bombs from students but no big deal. Once in our seats a drunk behind us got out of control and was finally arrested. The LSU fans around us appologized the rest of the game.
I asked them if they wanted to go back to LSU this year and they both said no. Good news for me. Boys trip.

Decades of LSU games and related discussions and my opinion is opposing fans real what they sow: chill friendly attitude will bring smiles drinks and awesome food; shitty attitudes, sassy mouths etc will be returned tenfold.

OOC fans get treated extremely well if they pass by and decide to stop.
frick everyone else....except maybe Vandy fans.

Pretty much. If someone wanders the LSU campus on a gameday and doesn't get offered food and drink, I tend to think it's on them.
