It’s hot as frick in there for meets

Source: I grew up in Louisiana as a competitive swimmer and did more than my fair share of meets in Baton Rouge

Sadly, the Nat is a disgrace and has been for at least 30 years.

We used to have state swim meets at the Nat, and I can say it was the one of the worst temperature controlled pools in the state. That’s saying a lot. Plus a teammate caught staff in the warm down pool because of its lack of filtration.

This thread is proof that LSU fans will argue about anything.

Zappas

-the facility itself does not have ac nor heat
-they have since added an actual temperature controlled locker room. When I swam there, we had to walk to the indoor track facility to shower.
-bleacher seating only. New stadiums have fan seating that completely separated from the pool deck.
-while it has been updated since I swam there, it is still a crappy filtration system.

That is some of why the facility is awful. I will also tell you that the present coach has no clue how to recruit. I have been an age group coach in the NO for over 20 years. We had a kid remotely interested in attending LSU. On his official visit, Dave left him and his family sit, unattended, in the uncomfortable bleachers for most of their time in the natatorium. He is presently attending a top 15 program much farther north.

Just my educated 2 cents.

Current, female Junior Swimmer at SMU (Texas), a Louisiana native, considered swimming for LSU out of high school a few years ago. What does Gayer do? Recruits 4 girls slower than her from out of state. We have in state talent, they are just not given an opportunity to represent LSU. All this talk about no instate talent is BS.

In fact, her swim times her freshman and sophomore year, at SMU, would have scored points for LSU at SEC's. Fun Swim Stat (FSS): This year at SEC's almost 80% of Gayer's recruits did NOT score points for LSU in their swims. We sure could have used the points. FSS: LSU finished "last" at SEC's. Gee, I wonder why. Too busy playing politics with our in state talent, in my opinion.

In fact, I repeat for the swimming retards on this thread, in fact, this same young lady swam faster for her Texas team this year than 4 out of 5 of Gayer's current LSU female swimmers in her stroke. Why was she not recruited? Sad to see personal politics actually hurting our Swim Program, in my opinion. Really Sad. And he got a raise last year? Unbelievable.

Come on man.

The athletic directors don’t care about swimming as long as the mighty football dollars keep coming in. Sure, they lie about concern for the other sports and student athletes, but they keep building multi-million facilities for every major sport, except swimming. Surely, they could have found some rehabilitatitive funds for the swimming pool. Many of the fans in that building don’t work. Proper ventilation using negative pressure differential does and can work. Come on, Joe, have you been to a swim meet? We are supposed to be a top level, well rounded athletic program that emphasizes all sports. Let’s soar like eagles, not be paddle ducks on the pond.

Gotcha. I'm surprised it doesn't have AC since it was built for the Olympic Sports Festival held in BR during the summer. I'm old enough to remember it being built. All I can say is SMU's facilities were even worse until they opened a new facility this year and they still were able to get good recruits. So I would have to agree that its the coach holding the program back.
