It s easy to be an enthusiastic fan when the team is undefeated and beating the crap out of everybody.
The loss of deeply committed student fans has coincided with the demise of the Tiger Stadium experience and it is one that has nothing to do with expensive corporate suits and season tickets.

I understand all of the arguments about attention spans, phones, the home viewing experience, over-expansion, tailgating changes, etc. - and most are real factors.
I think the factor that often gets overlooked is how we have been victims of our own success. Once the season gets rolling, nobody cares about beating the mid-low tier SEC teams, much less the OOC rent-a-win games. Everyone expects to win all of those games.
If LSU has an exciting, close win against someone in the bottom half of the conference it’s often met with more anger than elation. That applies whether you’re reading the Score Board, listening to the postgame show, or talking to folks at the bar. Instead of being excited about the win, it’s always “how are we going to beat [x] if we could barely beat [y]?” And that’s if we haven’t already lost a couple of games; otherwise, it’s “see you next year.” Very few people are able to enjoy a football season without constantly worrying about the bigger picture. That applies to the entire fan base, and the students are no exception.
One major difference difference between the 80’s/90’s and today is expectations. I think it’s a huge part of why you see the level of fan commitment at a program like A&M. They don’t have nearly the expectations that we have. I think it’s a huge part of why Death Valley was such a tough place to play even though LSU wasn’t that good in the past.

Make coke legal and make the beer cheaper in stadium.

will be highly disappointed if it isn't off the chain for UCLA, especially if we beat USC in Vegas.
You are setting yourself up for a letdown. The students don't give a fiddlers frick about UCLA.

They show up but don’t do much compared to student sections of the past. Sit down while looking at phone/filming with phone. It’s how this generation behaves.

Student section isn’t ANYTHING like what I saw in the 70’s, 80’s & 90’s - so much weaker
I’m glad they did it but mixing in the fraternities and sororities really watered the student section down.

With being able to watch games on TV so easily student's unless its a top game are always going to leave to go to a bar or back to the tailgate. I hated it when I was in college but it just is what it is. The only way to get that changed is to have a tough schedule where almost all the games are top -25 matchups.
But if the game turns out to be a blowout one way or the other (3 score lead) the students will still leave after the 2nd or 3rd quarter.

How would you improve the LSU Student section
The first thing I would do is have the most efficient and effective wifi platform in all of college football in an attempt to keep people in the stadium a little longer. It's not a fix all solution but people want to check scores and stats form other games, watch other games, scroll through their feeds and timelines.

They would be expelled if they did what we were doing back in the early 90’s.

Sell beers for cheaper than 13 dollars
That would help with keep everyone in the stands a bit longer and assist with the rowdiness of the crowd as well.
