It's strange how quiet these threads are when LSU is winning. LSU will play tomorrow at the same time. If they trail, or lose, this thread will be WAYYYY more active. Wonder why that is?

This is just as bad as those losers that come here when losing. Just enjoy the win.

That's an unfortunate truth. I'm a big LSU fan but I'm the same fan win or lose--objectively critical when they suck and gleefully boisterous when they do things well. I feel like haters should be the same--give them their due when they do well to match the unabashed criticisms.

Jay was brilliant. Building on a strong start against Arky by having a stronger one.

Is Heavener slowly becoming the number one pitcher ?

If Berzon could just find some consistency, all the pieces would be in place for a deep run in the tournament. With this version of Heavener and the Berzon of old, this team can hang with anyone as they showed in the last two games against Florida.

Heavener at her best is our #1 pitcher, and it's not even close. It's just a matter of not consistently getting her best. She had control issues today, but she missed in/around the zone. If she can even just do that it's good enough.

I’m not sure I would characterize her journey this year as inconsistency so much as learning to pitch at this level. She overpowered lesser teams pre-conference, then struggled to find control and finish games after teams had a few ABs to figure her out once conference play began. Hopefully the last two outings are a sign that she has grown into the pitcher we all hoped she would be. Berzon has been far more inconsistent. She’s the one who needs to get back to top form on a regular basis.

You'd have to think a win over OU will give us a national seed?

Some think they are already there but a win over OU would for sure lock it in

Our fan base is perhaps the most perfect example of catastrophe syndrome amongst college fan bases. Been that way a long time.

By that, I assume you mean a Top 8 seed. While the committee does stick very closely to RPI, they do consider some things like conference records and non-conference wins that will work against LSU. Oregon has a fairly low RPI, but the have a series win over UCLA and went 3-0 against Tennessee and FSU. They should get a Top 8 seed, but the committee might be reluctant to move them so far off their RPI. Starting with LSU’s RPI at #6, Oregon would drop them to #7. LSU has the head-to-head vs UCLA, so they probably stay ahead of them if they end up higher in RPI.

It will be interesting to see how they treat LSU vs Tennessee. Tennessee is 15-9 in conference, but they went 0-4 non-conference against Top 20 opponents while LSU was 3-0 (with a bad loss to Fullerton St). How each does in the SEC tournament could be the deciding factor.

Texas was 16-8 in conference and won the head-to-head series. They were also 3-1 against the Top 20 non-conference. I just don’t see LSU ahead of Texas, but I wouldn’t put it past the committee to cling stubbornly to RPI. More than likely that drops LSU to at least #8 pending the Tennessee comparison.

S Carolina was 13-11 in conference, won the series against LSU, and was 8-2 against Top 25 non-conference (with one bad loss like LSU). They probably should be ahead of LSU, but I suspect the committee will defer to RPI.

So, I think LSU could be anywhere from #7 to #10. Tennessee and S Carolina will be interesting. The tournament results might determine if they are Top 8. I suspect they’ll end up #9 regardless of outcome.

Fullerton won their conference regular season for the 3rd time in 4 years and has a top 50 RPI.

Relative to the teams competing for a Top 8 seed, it’s a bad loss. Only 3 teams in the RPI Top 13 have a Q2 loss and LSU is one of them.
