If we approached him in the fall it sounds like he was a top choice. We didn’t approach him after we whiffed.

This feels so much like the previous two hires—left in the lurch and forced to take the best available of whatever was left.

A guy who has 29 winning seasons in 31 years of coaching, multiple undefeated regular seasons under different teams, the winningest coach in ND history with an NC appearance and multiple playoff appearances feels so much like Les Miles and Ed O to you??

Kelly wasn't mentioned much because no one thought he'd leave ND. I don't recall anyone ever leaving ND to go to another college. It's rich in tradition and seen as a destination job.

No one wants to face the murderer’s row in the SEC West and the best football coach of all time unless they are trying to pad the retirement account.

Other than Saban and Dabo, who else would you have hired, genius?

You have your answer...Riley would've bailed out of the SEC ANYWAYS. He got lucky with the SC job opening.

Kelly was on nobody's radar because no one thought he can be lured from ND. My respect goes to him as he wanted to come to the best league and compete with the best.

LSU could have hired Saban and people would have complained.

Not gonna lie, my first reaction was WTF?? A lot of my dislike of this hire came of my extreme dislike of Norte Dame and USC because they always get top 10 preseason ranking just because of who they are. Firstly it isn't Kelly's fault the media gives the Irish a pass every year.
Anotherthing,Kelly consistently got the Irish to the playoffs despite a clear recruiting disadvantage. Twenty years ago Norte Dame had a clear advantage because of the name only. But these days I don't think many recruits get excited about the Irish. I think Kelly has pretty much squeezed every last bit of production out of that situation. I don't think any other coach could have produced a championship at Norte Dame, including Saban. Most importantly if Woodward was going after Kelly early on, that tells me he got someone he wanted. That to me is far from settling. I don't know if we will ever know what made Kelly change his mind, maybe more money, maybe he realized that he wasn't getting into the playoffs as he was hoping, maybe Woodward sent some coeds to help. Whatever it is I know 3 things. We didn't hire that soft AF Riley. We got a legit Xs and Os guy. Lastly he runs a tight ship. Plus, plus, and plus.

Please. When was the last time Notre Dame was nationally relevant? Not since Reagan was president. They've backed into the conversation three times on name recognition alone and shite the bed all three times. They play in a conference where Wake Forest and Pitt are playing for the title. Everyone knows Notre Dame is soft but we hire their coach and suddenly everyone is acting like they are world-beaters!

So LSU made a push for him earlier but he declined. We ended getting him in the end and you call that settling? Doesn’t sound like you know what that word means.

LSU made a push for him, got turned down, then came up dry everywhere else, and had to come back with another truckload of cash. That's exactly what settling means!

If you are comparing Brian Kelly, the winningest coach at the most storied university in the country, to O and Miles then I do not think there is any ability to rationalize with you. Irrational people cannot be rationalized with and if I try to do it then I am actually the problem, not them.

Go cheer for USC if you think their university is better suited for you based on these coaching hires. We’ll be standing on the podium in the next four years saying “I told ya so”.

Really? We're going to count the 13 years of Grand Valley State wins in the total? C'mon, man. That is some Curley Hallman-level shite right there!

Or come to a school that is dumb enough to give buyouts in the tens of millions of dollars to certified morons. He will be getting paid not to coach in five years--mark my words.
