LSU RBs 2026 Versus Last Year

Wanted to put this together to show the difference a year, a new staff, a mobile QB, and a genuine commitment to the running game can make.
2025 - First 4 FBS Games
85 touches, 352 yards, 3 TDs
2026
120 touches, 529 yards, 4 TDs
I was a little surprised to see the backs only have 4 touchdowns this year, until I realized a big portion of the difference here stems from QB rushing:
2025
10 carries, -27 yard, 0 TDs
2026
55 carries, 342 yards, 9 TDs
All 9 of those rushing scores from Leavitt and Clark were in the redzone and many inside the 5, vulturing touchdowns from the RBs.

When you get into the red area it's vital to be able to run the QB to equate the numbers.

The running game is drastically better this year, and unlike before, there's creativity and adjustments made when needed to get it going.
I would guess that RBs had more receptions in 2024/25 than what Jones gets now, and maybe with Berry as a #2 we'll see him get more involved in the passing game.

We run more than two plays, the QB’s can and do run, our OL gets low and blocks, we scheme to get mismatches

This is underrated. Our OL is certainly not great, better than last year, but that was a low bar.

I love the concerted effort to run the ball this year much more than the past. Through 4 games that shows we are just shy of 9 more carries per game vs LY. It’s not a ton but it’s also not insignificant. Not including the QB runs. I’ll take it.

It's a breath of fresh air.
I love the counters and misdirections. The net sweeps help stretch the defense out. I like the pull/ split he did with Seaton last week

The running game in 2025 was like a morbidly obese old man reaching for the last donut.

Yeah I’d say the stats don’t even do the improvement justice, and I’m expecting these numbers to be pretty lopsided by season’s end.
