heard it was sandwich platters from Walmart and plastic candelabras. Did I hear wrong or is this considered an "elegant" tailgating setup?

Pretty close to right. It is a good situation, but like a sunday school picnic compared to Tiger Fans on a Saturday night!!

I went to last week's game at Ole Miss - the tailgating is vastly overrated.

True, the girls dress up. The guys also dress up and look like dbags. They do have a great amount of attractive girls there (probably the largest %-wise of any SEC school), but also a large quantity of unattractive girls who are desperately trying to fit into the mystique of beautiful girls all over their campus.

However, the tailgating itself sucks. Yes it looks cool that the grove is filled with tents...but I walked around the whole thing and never saw one single chandelier, so this article is either outdated, or the webels are getting lazy.

And no, you can't cook there. People make snacks from home and set them up on tables with tablecloths and centerpieces. But all the food is store bought and prepared, or some snack trays made at home. Nobody can cook anything (the whole point of tailgating), and there is not a keg in sight (another point in tailgating). And having to pour yourself a beer and looking both ways to make sure a cop doesnt see you open your ice chest (which he knows perfectly well contains alcohol) is stupid.

Great buildings and campus though. Small and very clean. Good-looking women (mostly). But the tailgating....meh.

I think the idea of cooking as part of tailgating is a Louisiana/LSU thing.

Most other places, people might put burgers and dogs on a grill, but that is as elaborate as the cooking gets.

I cannot imagine spending GameDay making a pot of gumbo--just too much trouble logistically and too time-consuming when I want to do other things.

The booze rule at Ole Miss IS annoying, but that is a fairly recent move by the soon-to-retire Chancellor, so maybe the rule will be done away with when he leaves.

Just like our girls wear sundresses and yours wear "jirts"......our guys wear sports coats and yours wear "jorts" and flip-flops.....

not all the women at either school wear sundresses.

and i have seen jorts at ole miss as well as lsu. it's the south, some people dress like assholes.

ole miss tailgate is too wannabe "proper" for my taste. and i'm not a fan of having to walk through everyone's tents all the damn time to get to mine. only thing it has going for it is lots of fans are in one place.

and i've never seen an lsu girl in a "jirt." but i do see a ton of purple & gold sundresses. what the hell is a jirt anyway?

Who the frick cares what they or Penn St. are rated. I don't need my tailgate experience validated by some national poll. I will take LSU any day of the week, but that is hust me.

which proves that most of these polls don't mean anything. It's like they do it cus they know we will be on here bitching about it. But then again it was espn.com that rated us #1 which means people actually voted on it.

that is WEAK.

i've been to other tailgating and i think no one touches lsu..the RVs start arriving 'en masse' thursday and friday and the party doesn't stop until sunday. not to mention no one can touch our food.

i went to a titans tailgate and it was we were just getting settled in when we had to go to the game..after the game was over and we walked back..about 75% of the tailgaters had packed up and were GONE.

taht is weak. if you're not tailgating overnight then youre not tailgating.

1. This is true

2. I love me some LSU tailgating, but the gilrs at UGA and how they dress for a game is the best it gets in the SEC. end of story
