You continually post these statistical tables that compare apples and oranges.
Jefferson has played on a couple of the most talented teams LSU has ever fielded.
The talent level was way lower when Tyler, Davey, and Booty played at LSU. We were playing from behind a lot forcing the QBs to take chances.
In JJs best statistical season of 2009, you should include the number of times he was sacked. It was an astounding number. Of course, those that did not watch or refuse to see what is obvious will say the the O-line was terrible. JJ made them look terrible by holding the ball too long on almost every passing down. Instead of taking any chances of throwing picks, he would not throw to a receiver that was not wide open, instead taking sacks that ere then blamed on the O-line.
I have been watching LSU football all of my life, and JJ is the least effective QB LSU has ever fielded as the primary QB for any significant stretch.

Flynn, Mauck and Tyler were the only true quarterbacks. True leaders, students of the game, decent arms, able to audiblize, read defenses, etc.
how stupid can you be?
here's what Jimbo Fisher has to say about Jamarcus Russell:
quote:
“His work ethic for us — everything I ever asked him to do, he did. He was smart, he carried three and four play packages at the line of scrimmage.”

Virtually impossible to post the numbers JR did without putting in the work/studying.

quote:while it's true booty obviously came in as a star, it's not true that's the reason he started. i remember saban talking about jamarcus russell in the battle against randall, and saying it was very similar to the rohan/booty situation. that in both cases one guy was clearly more talented, but could not be win the starting position until the "got it." that both of them took over the starting role when they understood that starting QB wasn't just about games, it was preparation and how you carried yourself in practice. that dogging it in practice wasn't an option for the QB because w/o max effort from him the offense couldn't improve. when the switch clicked, they were on their way.
Booty came in under a LOT OF HYPE. That's why he played ahead of Davey.

You should add 4 columns: sacks, fumbles, total turnovers and W/L record as a starter. And I would love to see how Hodson compared. Other than that, this is fantastic and thanks for the effort.

That chart just proves how much better JaMarcus was than any other LSU QB

i knew booty sucked, but damn i never realized how bad his stats are

I never realized Flynn was so inaccurate.

I would agree that he was great, but I think Bert Jones and Tommy Hodson were maybe a bit better overall.
Russell was the most physically gifted of the three no doubt. Had he started as a freshman and for four years, he definitely could have eclipsed their careers.

I would put JR at the top, simply because he has a monster season and he is the one I watched most recently. You could argue for Jones though, he played in a much different era and you can't compare stats.

I never saw Jones play, but I saw Hodson play.
JR was better than Hodson.

quote:You didn't watch LSU football when Tyler, Davey, and Booty played, did you. Tyler and Davey had winning records. Booty was a major cause of his own problems. It's amazing what happened once Booty was no longer starting.

Oh, and if you knew anything about football, you'd know that passing numbers tend to increase when a team is trailing. Just look at Lee's RS freshman year.
Booty's numbers suck. They do. His first year QB Rating is double digits. His career QB Rating is barely triple digits. His career completion percentage is below 50%. He never had a year above 50%.
Go peddle your Jefferson hatred elsewhere. Some people here, not many, but some, understand football, LSU football in particular, and the QB position.

There are at least three QBs on the chart that are worse than Jefferson.

Oh, and please, let me add, you mad.

Man... I never stop being amazed at some of these posters. They see the stats and yet they still deny them.
I don't care if we won 15 games in a row. Jefferson is still an average QB at best. An acceptional athelete, but a forgettable QB.
I appreciate your work and it is refreshing to see it on the Rant.
I usually don't post much at all but I had to reply to this thread for both good and bad reasons.
Just think... Only ten more days and we won't have to worry about this quarterback situation anymore. They will both be gone. As for the future QB's? We'll have to wait and see how ole Les will screw that up as well.

"Lies, damned lies, and statistics" is a phrase describing the persuasive power of numbers, particularly the use of statistics to bolster weak arguments. It is also sometimes colloquially used to doubt statistics used to prove an opponent's point.

But clearly Russell, Davey, Tyler, Mauck/Flynn, Randall, Lee/JJ, Booty.
And you have waaaaaaay too much time on your hands.
