it took a little time for Jump and Holman to get going last season in sec play
Shores has been off for a year and I still think he will improve the more he gets out there
Anderson has been solid
Eyanson just needs to put it all together with an outside shot you give someone else a shot at starting on weekend

I think the important thing to look at here is the guy has given up just 2 XBH in almost 24 innings of work, and those were doubles, not triples or HR either.
He induces a lot of weak contact, unfortunately the BABIP against him (lucky factor to large degree) has been awful. Before this start his BABIP against was .400 on the season....for a guy who has given up just 2 doubles, no 3B or HR. That really really sucks (luck wise).
He's had a ton of ground ball singles happen to him.

same thing happened to him in 2023 pre-injury. He had 18.1 IP, gave up 15 hits, 13 of them being singles and only 2 doubles, no home runs.

he had maybe the most unlucky game ive ever seen against North Alabama.
I’ve never seen so many balls “miss” the strike zone by such a small margin and so many slow grounders and bloop singles go list by a defender.

13 walks on Saturday and Sunday. The old nemesis rears its ugly head. Good SEC gonna really make you pay.

That’s not going to get better with SEC umpires.

gotta hope the ground balls just out of reach of our defenders do.

He does give up some pretty weak contact, but the hard luck factor tends to rise when you leave the ball up (which he does a good bit, and allows for little looping singles) and when you don't get a lot of swing and miss.
I talked about this in an earlier post about how he lacks a legitimate secondary pitch. His fastball has life and movement, which is great but, unfortunately, he doesn't get very many swings and misses on that either, because guys just sit on it. The foul balls and sliders way out of the zone make every at bat last forever, it seems, and drives up his pitch count.
If only he could create some depth in that slider, and throw enough strikes with it to get hitters to respect it, that would solve most of his problems.

One thing i have noticed is the staff does not seem to focus on adding pitches to people repertoire, now it’s kinda hard to say because we have had so few multi year pitchers in Jay’s time.
shite teach him to throw a sinker or a changeup or something.

Well his fastball is really a hard sinker, but yeah, it is a little late to learn something new. Not that it's impossible. Guys like Skenes seem be able to learn a new pitch and master it in a matter of weeks, but then, those guys are pretty rare, lol.

late now but it’s year 3

That's what I meant. I agree that they should have worked on other pitches (or maybe they did, and the slider was the best they could get out of him), I'm just saying now we're in a spot where it's tough to try to learn something else on the fly.

I feel like that is a college baseball thing. Coaches would rather guys get good at throwing two pitches than be average at throwing three or four.
And for whatever reason, some guys can never develop a changeup. It seems like a no-brainer for a guy who can throw 99 also to feature a changeup.

LSU pitching is putting too much pressure on LSU hitting. It almost cost us a game Saturday. That game should not have been as close as it turned out. LSU hitting is great but we are going to have games were LSU will have to lean on pitching more. The pitching has to get better.
