Great new episode put out by the baseball media team. Starts off with Coach Kelly being weirded out by all the “yes sirs” he gets.

Pretty funny anecdote but it's pretty sad that it's so weird to hear someone just have basic manners and respect for elders/authority figures.

It's a geographical thing. People in different parts of the country express respect/deference in different ways. Saying "yes sir" doesn't inherently make you more respectful than just saying "yes". Just a difference in culture.

ETA: I watched every episode of this series last night. Got me frickin pumped for some baseball. This team could be special.

It is tone, but my kids need to be saying yes sir and no sir culture be damned.

For sure. When I eventually have kids, they will absolutely be taught to say yes sir/no sir, etc. That's how I was raised and that's the norm in the south. But it isn't everywhere.

Given that you are showing, attention, and the intent to be “Respectful” i would agree.

You can say things like “Yes” “absolutely”

But saying shite like “yeah” or “uh huh” are definitely not respectful in any culture.

Can't really disagree here. All I was saying, or attempting to say, is that adding a sir or ma'am, or not adding a sir or m'am, isn't inherently universally respectful or disrespectful. In the midwest some folks will think you're mocking them if you say "yes sir".

I watched them on LSU baseball's instagram account. Not sure if there is anywhere else to watch it. The account is open so you don't need an account to view them.

Next time you see a Marine, why don't you share this bit of wisdom with him.
