Secondary had one bad year, last year. This year they have played very well, while missing two all Americans.

In 2019 our opponents were behind 2 scores in the first quarter.

Stats are like bikinis: what they reveal is interesting. What they hide is vital.

The uptick in 2019 may be explained some by the fact that we were kicking everyone's tail and they were forced to pass more.

This only begins to color the picture

We were 76th this year, that's bad.

What year in the last 5 were we elite? Do we expect "pretty good" here at DBU?

So maybe we get a coach that the kids will play more than 1.5 years for.

And I've never seen Ricks on any All-American list.

You do realize that passing defense is an entire defense right? Pass rush, linebacker play, all of it goes into a pass defense.

McGlothern and Darren Evans have been locking up receivers the last few weeks. That’s player development. That’s good coaching.

Weird how when we start blitzing and pressuring a QB you realize our corners actually do cover their man.

Pelini was just a colossal screw job

But honestly, this year was one of Raymond’s better coaching seasons

What are we running?

Notre Dame Box? Single wing? Veer? Triple option? Wing T? Zone blocking? Wishbone? Spread option? Go heavy with 3 TE and a fullback that we don't have on the team?

Were we breaking in new/freshman players into the secondary.

What about DLine play that can influence passing numbers.

What teams did we play each year? Were they pass happy or rush oriented. Like Bama under Hurts was rush heavy and significantly different than under Tua. And there's a general shift in SEC offenses towards the spread.

The stats are interesting but there's a lot more to the numbers. We just cant generalize regression without going deeper. I'm not saying Raymond should never be let go. There's lots of good DB coaches in the ranks. But we cant put the put the blame entirely on CR

I'd be interested to see if you did this for 5-10 decent teams if the pattern wasn't the same. Football is a lot more wide open now even than 6 years ago.

A&M has had an opposite trend.
21 - 19 @ 192
20 - 56 @ 225
19 - 41 @ 209
18 - 98 @ 253
17 - 85 @ 238
16 - 91 @ 250

Remember in 2019 we played like 7 top 10 teams so this was the highest SOS.
