not in a pre season poll, pre season polls are based on how good a team is following the off season. if they were trying to predict where teams were going to be at the END of the year, then yes you would take teams schedules into effect

1. Missouri - only plays 2 tough opponents
2. West Virginia - 1 tough opponent
3. Clemson - 2 or 3 challenging games

All 3 seem have plenty of talent returning at the skill positions.

Others who may rank higher:
4. Auburn - has us at home
5. Texas - perenial underacheiver has plenty of talent
6. Texas Tech - real scary offense

1. Maybe

2. New Coach / No Slaton

3. Are you serious? You think Texas is a perenial underacheiver, but not Clemson?

4. No offense / New QB

5. Maybe

6. Again another perenial underacheiver / Plus unless they score every drive, they might not win. Besides, they have to play OU and Texas

As for the two maybes, I will give the previous season's champ the nod over a maybe anyday. Hell, its only preseason.

Looking at the season objectively and considering our questions at QB, I would rank LSU somewhere between 9 and 12. Does anyone else think LSU is slightly overrated at #6 (not that I'm complaining)?

yes

We are going to need the QB play to be above average to be deserving of that ranking IMO

3 that could rank higher than LSU by years end because of ease of schedule...

1. Missouri - only plays 2 tough opponents

So Auburn is a tough opponent, but USF who beat the Aubs in Auburn aren't considered tough? Noel Devine is a fricking beast and I expect him to be better than Slaton. He played basically the whole game in the Oklahoma blowout. Look I think the Big Least is pretty terrible, but WVU deserves props. Until Pat White leaves, they have a very good team that can beat anyone.

would you rank Mauck or Flynn above average?

i think they were both excellent game managers but their play was pretty average if you ask me. just my opinion

hell yea man me too... and im pretty sure we arent the only 2 on here that would

and thats why im not too worried about our qb situation. yea lee and hatch dont have the game experience but when you think about it niether did flynn or mauck. mauck comes into the sec championship and leads the team to victory in 01. flynn starts against miami and rips them to pieces, sits behind JR, then starts the following season and leads the Tigers to a NC. why... because they didnt have to do it alone, they had a shite load of talent to help them, JUST LIKE THIS YEAR... but people dont realize this.

(in no way shape or form am i saying the Tigers will repeat. Is it possible?..... yes)

Then why isn't USC also considered "overrated"? They have just as many concerns as us, plus QB issues, yet they are ranked #2? Goddamn, Pac-10 must be weak.

schedule doesn't have to count for shite preason, if thats the case why in the hell are florida and georgia so high, they have tough schedules too.

USC should be number one with WVU and OSU right behind them for their schedules.

that makes no sense.

Not to mention:

OSU plays USC

UF plays UGA

so on and so forth. It would take nostrafriggindomas to make those predictions.

After the 03 NC we were preseason #3, and yet it seemed almost nobody wanted us that high. To paraphrase the ESPN Power 16 quote after the Oregon St. Game "For what its worth, we didn't think LSU was the #3 team in the country either". Of course that year we quickly proved we weren't, but at least at #6 we can kind of lie and wait. They will be too busy slurping UGA, USC, WVA, OU, and Mizzou. That is, of course. assuming we win.

Yes. I would say they are both above average (Flynn played below average during the middle of the year due to injury).

I think if we knew we were going to get QB play at that level, then the ranking would be a bit more justified.

There is a chance that our QB play could be a level or two below last year. That is the fear. We really don't know what we have at QB.

Speaking of the 6 teams you'd rank higher, mainly due to schedule...

Thinking along your line, wouldn't that knock UGA below us? So, you would have Clemson, Auburn (who plays WV), and texas tech ahead of LSU and UGA right?

Truth is, no one knows. Not one person has seen every team in the top 25 put all of their expected starters up against a quality opponent. The preseason poll is just a guess using the number and talent of returning starters and the talent level of the new expected starters. If you look at how many starters we have returning compared to other teams, and then look at how well we have done recruiting-wise over the last 3 or 4 years to fill the holes each year, then NO, I do not think we are overrated. I think we should rank anywhere from 4-10, and seeing as how the poll is supposedly done by coaches around the country, I am quite alright with being #6.

As long as we take care of our business, we will not be left out of any NCG. That is why our placement in the poll is irrelevant right now. If we take care of the small things(winning one game at a time) the big things(NC) will take care of themselves.

No more overrated than a Florida with a crappy and injury ridden defense, or an overhyped USC or Georgia team, not to mention Ohio St. which can't hasn't won a big game outside of their own conference in like forever.

Best post ever. And some people will come on here and say you're an idiot. Wow. You are so right.
