LSU or just something that happens to early commitments?

From DandyDon
In football recruiting news, LSU's success this year has apparently caused a lot of big-time players who are committed to other schools to think twice about LSU. Lorenzo Phillips, a highly sought-after linebacker from Patterson who committed to Florida a couple of months ago, has opened his recruitment back up and is strongly considering LSU. Rumor has it that he will de-commit today and then take his full allotment of five official visits before making a decision. I like LSU's chances with the 6'2", 205 four-star linebacker. He would be a nice addition to an already solid LSU recruiting class. It has also been reported that a couple of five-star FSU defensive end commitments, Dante Fowler and Mario Edwards, are now considering a visit to LSU. If LSU's success continues this season, as I think it will, this recruiting class could really surprise some people.
I would like to think LSU's defensive success has made Phillips reconsider. But this must happen from time to time

I think Phillips was a soft commit to UF and LSU was never really out of the picture.

Good news, but belongs in recruiting board.

We've certainly lost our share of early out-of-state commitments so...

Unless a kid has "ties" to a specific school, it is usually an emotional impulse that made them commit, and the emotions may change. It is not unusual. These are 17-19 yo kids.

Phillips has gone from A&M to Florida, and now opening back up again. We won't know until ge signs who he is going to for certain.

Don't be a buzz kill. It is definitely LSU football related. And I don't visit the recruiting board either.

I remember 20 years ago losing Louisiana talent to Nebraska beacause of their programs success, I remember losing talent to Tennessee because of their facilities and I remember losing local talent because LSU was mediocre. Now we are reaping the benefits of our commitment to Football. I'm still getting used to be the "better choice" too.

It happens every year that a team plays their way into a kid's consideration. Those early commits don't mean much at all.

Yeah, same here on the recruiting board. I prefer the Dandy Don version of who committed rather than the recruiting board's unreadable insider elitestness. Thanks for the post.

So soft that he's promised to come to both of the last recruiting weekends at LSU, and didn't. So soft that even though the team he was committed to-Florida-was coming to play, he decided not to show up.
The kid was talking nothing but Florida consistently before and after his commitment. Now he's Fickle Frank after they took it on the chin two weeks in a row. Heck, Auburn might make it three.
LSU will make room for him, but I dislike the way some kids operate. Bigtime.

I can certainly understand recruits--especially defensive ones--being attracted to the swagger this team plays with. And the media exposure they are getting as well.

LSU has talent to go on a nice run, coaching stability (unlike the Miss schools and Georgia), world class facilities and the best game day atmosphere in college football. Unless a kid is a lifelong fan, we should pick up some big time players.

I thought we only had one scholarship left to offer and they were holding it for Landon Collins
