2017 - HS ranking
A. Deculus - #5 OT
E. Ingram - #8 OG
S. Charles - #22 OG ... 2020 NFL draft UDFA
S. Stewart - #50 OT ... quit after enrolling in June, lasted 1 week @ LSU and never came back from West VA.
... thankful Deculus and Ingram decided to return this year, hope they can preach leadership and physicality to the underclassmen

2018 - HS ranking
C. Smith - #2 OC ... also quit, left the team after 1 year transferred to MSU
B. Traore - #2 OT (Juco) ... 2020 NFL draft UDFA
C. Hines - #16 OG
D. Rosenthal - #26 OT ... transferred to Kentucky, we all know why
C. Wire - #28 OT
D. Lewis - #2 OG (Juco) ... 2020 NFL draft Seattle
... 2 signed recruits still on the team

2019 - HS ranking
K. Thomas - #2 OG ... ??? head scratcher
R. Parker - #19 OT ... quit team in 2020 ? pending legal issues
A. Bradford - #13 OG
C. Turner - #8 OC
T. Perry - #32 OG ... signed as a legacy, early injuries with feet, I'm not sure he'll ever play
... only 2 of 5 seeing some playing time

2020 - HS ranking
M. Dumervil - #6 OT
M. Martinez - #26 OT
C. Jackson - # 44 OT
X. Hill - #25 OG
... I sure hope these players are developing into some road maulers

2021 - HS ranking
G. Dellinger - #6 OT
K. Makaneole - #6 OG
... inexcusable for only signing 2 OL in the 2021 class

I didn't include transfers, feel free to make any corrections I missed

Our o line is an absolute joke and keeps us from competing for a playoff spot year in and year out. O will need to fully recognize that to save his job

I cant believe how unlucky we have gotten with this as well as the sheer amount of swings and misses. Our evaluation of talent on the Oline has been horrendous and the ability to bring in the big fish has been basically non existent. This is a problem that has reared its ugly head and I just cannot believe a program like LSU 2 years removed from a natty is dealing with this BS.

I don’t actually think it’s a talent evaluation issue. I think it’s bad recruiting. We swing for the biggest fish and strike out often, then just end up taking the biggest available bodies in LA.

Given the attrition and difficulty of evaluating that position every year you have to sign 5 every single year no matter what. Yet alone signing 5 talented players. Look at the rankings and stars compared to the defensive line. It is not comparable and not surprising the difference. They lack talent and depth.

I think you are certainly right with this but I do also think there is something to be said about the eval as well. IDK. Youre probably right but it really sucks. Something is off and I think its a mix of what each of us said plus coaching and preparation.

You would’ve thought we could have capitalized on the natty

Sahdiq was a UDFA? I don’t believe so.

We used to take DLineman and make them OLineman. Not happening as of late. Rosenthal and Hines are the last I can think of that were moved.

That’s why we have Brad Davis now. Unfortunately, the damage has been done.

IMHO, what you are seeing in that list is a mix of mis-evaluations AND bad strategy (both in numbers/quantity and upcoming need).

For example in 2019 Parker wasn't going to be a productive OT. It became evident as it came close to signing day. Plus the guy wanted to be a TE anyway. We honored the commitment because he was in state; maybe for skill positions you do that- for linemen you should not. There was no other OT taken in that class. This is BOTH- bad strategy and bad evaluation.

In 2018 Smith being a starting C in the SEC was not likely. Not impossible, but not likely and was more project that projected. He's a solid #2 at MSST. We've been looking for a C ever since (Turner ain't it). Shanahann is far better. But what about next year? Still haven't filled that gap.

Many of these are contributors. And that's good. But based on our low numbers and mis-timed recruitments we really can't afford mis-evaluations.

Except for not finding a consistent snapping sure-fire C, 2020 could end up being a good year. Don't write Dumervil off, Martinez looks good, Hill is getting time and the coaches see progress. But damn, following 2018 and 2019 it might be too little too late.

The starting point is evaluations. You can increase numbers and end up with non-contributors and be at square-0 if you don't evaluate properly. Address that first or risk exacerbating your problem.

Well we all wanted Cregg fired and O did just that. Also just a reminder we were all having this same convo just a couple years ago just with the D line. Seems we did eventually end up getting that squared away as well…

Thank you. Good to hear from someone who thinks instead of many trying to look smart.

That’s sobering.

LSU should be able to land much higher rated players, BUT they should be much better than they are at keeping (and developing) what they have got.

Inexcusable
