For some reason, McMahon loves his midmajor transfer guards. I know Sears was considered a good get but his TO ratio is worrisome. A step up in competition could be causing a higher # of turnovers if he wasn’t turning it over as much as his previous school.

I almost wonder if we shouldn’t roll more with Givens at this point. Have him take his lumps while establishing that he is the future. He was ranked highly so no harm in trying to develop him. However, we have a coach that thought Juice Hill was a 30 minute a night guy in major DI ball so this argument is probably an uphill battle.

No shot.

We’re awful on the road.
Ole Miss owns the TO margin.

Could get ugly imo.

Ole Miss leads the SEC in turnover margin. One thing LSU is good at is turning the ball over. I'm surprised the normal spread isn't a little higher.
Not having a point guard able to run the offense without a lot of turnovers is killing the offense. So who should be playing where? Our starting lineup usually has Sears at point and Carter and Bailey in the wings. When guards are substituted it is Givens at point and V Miller at wing. How are each of these at turnovers?
Carter leads with 36, Sears 34, Bailey 24, V Miller 22 and Givens 15. Looked at just by totals then Givens and Miller should start. But break it down by turnovers per minute played and you get a different picture. Givens has played 15 games and averaged 15.1 minutes per game. So his 15 turnovers are accumulated at one every 15.1 minutes. When I analyze the rest this way the ones with the best turnover ratio in order are Bailey, Carter, Givens , Miller and Sears. So my proposal would be to put Bailey at the top of the key and Carter and Sears on the wing. Perhaps then we can get Sears and Carter an open three pointer off of a Bailey penetration or a pass to a big man cutting in the lane who then passes to the wing.

Let’s hope McMahon doesn’t start the game like he has the last 2 with sears taking the ball down the court just so he can get abused and turn it over for the first 7 minutes of the game. Ole miss guards turn you over a bit. Let Baily take it down. And hopefully givens can have a decent game.

Givens is turning the ball over at a comparable rate as Carter and Sears. With more minutes I think this stat gets worse for him. So he is not an answer for this year or probably any year.

Fair enough. I was just spitballing on other options to try since what we’ve been doing hasn’t been working out (shocker).

What’s lame is rds dc has 10 downvotes 3.5 hours away from tipoff by simply starting the game thread.

We just have shitty fans in general.

Don’t group every one is with him. He’s been wishcasting losses since the beginning.

This is true, however, the lack of Jalen isn’t the fatal flaw thus far. It’s been guard play, specifically under pressure.
Yes, it’s possible Jalen creates problems for Missouri, who doesn’t have the quality big like vandy does, but he doesn’t typically dominate a game, and also, lsu l’a problem was turnovers, which he likely wouldn’t have solved that problem.
I agree we need Reed. But we also need to play good basketball, and we aren’t right now. I have to think McMahon is going to come in expecting pressure and do something different.

I like Jalen and was really upset when he went down. We all almost speculated immediately that it looked season ending.

However, he was a very inconsistent player and although the team would be better if he hadn’t gotten injured, the narrative that Jalen’s injury is the sole reason we have looked lost through 2 games of SEC play is complete bullshite perpetuated by posters with a very specific agenda, which is completely separate from actual winning LSU MBB program.

I agree. But with experience some consistency.
Jalen is valuable as a matchup issue for bigs.he isn’t the most athletic, but his ball skills at high speed are significantly above average for a player his size. His contribution would likely be most forcing fouls from other teams bigs. He would have created problems for Josh gray. But realistically, our double digit turnover 1st halves have been the reason we’ve lost both games. We haven’t shot poorly, and although we haven’t been great, our defense hasn’t been awful.

South Carolina has two of their starters out today due to injuries. They have the ball and clock with a chance to win right now.

This one might get ugly

At this point we might as well just go winless so we can cut ties with McChicken

So you are saying they are better without them?
Because they got blasted with them.
