Was at that one. Crazy game.

Dale was a great coach and motivator. He was just so up and down and a lot of fans feel he lacked the technical and strategic depth.

Who knows - I’ve met him a few times and really like the guy.

I was there with boys and girls high school teams from a small school in the Mississippi Delta. Played the next day in Grand Isle.

I was playing in a WYSA game at age 8 in good ol Walker and I saw someone watching the game on a small TV. I saw the score was LSU 96 LMU 88, but it was a camera shot of the scoreboard, and I assumed it was the final and I thought, “Wow, that’s a high scoring game.” Little did I know there was still eight minutes to go in regulation!

Check out the box score....one thing that stood out to me quickly was Stanley Roberts had ZERO blocked shots...Shaq had 12.

the most impressive thing about that boxscore is we basically played 7 guys, 2 of them 7 footers to run nonstop

boudreaux and krajewski only played 3 minutes each

That was my favorite game that I attended in the P-Mac. It was incredible to watch.

Hank Gathers was amazing, and when he died not to long afterward, I actually wept as I remembered watching him play in that game.

LMU and UNLV games were some of the best PMAC has ever seen

You picked the best two that I have seen there as well.

LMU first and UNLV a close second.

Shaq said Hank Gathers was the only player ever he couldn’t “break”. Sucks he died still holds the record for most points in the PMAC for an opposing player.

LSU games produced the highest scoring college basketball AND football games. Don't believe either of those records will ever be broken.

I watched that game live and it still gives me chills to this day. Loyola and UNLV games against LSU had a Death Valley on Saturday night feel to it.

Then you saw one of the greatest LSU basketball games of all time

It may have been one of the greatest college game of all time (not necessarily one of the most important, but certainly one of the greatest). Randy Devall, who was an integral part of that team, said years later that if you attended that game and only paid $15 for a ticket, you still owe LSU $20 bucks and you need to show up and pay 'em.

Tough seeing that team lose so early in the tourney.

Questionable foul calls on Shaq kept him on the bench in foul trouble for a significant portion of that game. The rest of the team wasn’t strong enough to overcome that handicap. It just seemed like the refs didn’t think Shaq could make some of plays he did cleanly so they blew the whistle. May have been too good for his own good.

Those 2 games may be some of the all time most entertaining games you'll want to see in college basketball.
