The state of Alabama will never allow an out of state school to produce plates.

Right after they allow gay marriage, abortion, and legalize weed, they will sell LSU plates

I wouldn't even have an LSU sticker on my truck in Alabama

I think Tennessee at one point had LSU plates, but when I looked into it they were no longer available.

Tennessee never had an LSU plate. Their is a push to get one, just have to pre-sell 1000.
UGA, Bama, Ole Miss, Auburn, and even Penn State are some of the out of state plates available in Tennessee.

I took my front LSU plate off my car because about once a month some douche with Bama stickers would semi-run me off the road (I live in Bama).

I am fairly certain I have seen a UT plate in Alabama. I inquired with the state agency that handles the production of plates about LSU and they sent me info on how to apply. I think it has to go through the legislature to be approved. Not sure how MSU got a that through the Bama legislature.
I have not pursued it after receiving the info, but would be interested if enough LSU fans in Alabama expressed an interest.

In the OP there is a link to a story about this:

Missouri only allows Arkansas, I believe. Don't think the folks here would mind LSU plates as there is a pretty good LSU fan base and no natural rivalry.

LSU fan base in missouri? Really? Why?

LSU.was the first non-Texas school to get plates in this state. Alumni group worked with state to get it done. I think a rich alumni ponied up the money for the first order of 1800 plates.
I believe that Texas put a requirement of 5,000 pre-orders before they'd approve the LSU plate. Luckily, Texas has a couple of large alumni groups so they were able to get close, including my pre-order. They got close and then a wealthy alumnus put up the money for the rest. At least that's the story I heard.
Texas realized what a great moneymaker this type of plate was and now you can get plates for other out of state schools.
