I love lists like these, bc Alabama is NEVER on them

i guess I will go ahead and supply the unpopular opinion that Alabama should be on the list. They are almost always ranked higher than LSU academically (Please don't mention specific programs LSU is better at. Alabama is ranked higher as a whole). Also, Alabama's football team is probably the most dominant team in all of the three major college sports (at least recently).

I meant specific academic programs, not athletic. I was sure someone would say "LSU has a better XYZ program than Alabama" to call into question whether or not they are truly deserving of a higher ranking academically.

This is correct. What Saban has been able to do there, not just athletically, but helping increase OOS enrollment and the correlation with improved programs has been incredible.

This must be heavily weighted to the athletics side of the equation.

Maybe Forbes is using the most important metric, they are money people by the way.

He was calling you a hypocrite. Forbes methodology looked at athletics as a whole and academics as a whole. You said you didn't want to hear about anyone cherry-picking specific academic programs when comparing LSU to Alabama, and then proceeded to single out Alabama football.

Be careful now, speaking the truth about Saban will get you branded a Saban lover on here. I never could understand why some on here just can't admit that Saban is the best coach in college football right now and possibly the best of all time. I don't like him but I can admit that he's the best.

I understand but Alabama football has been almost incomparably dominant compared to any other Big 3 program in a way that I feel makes it of higher importance to this list. And they have other sports programs that have been nationally relevant as well. They have the second most SEC baseball championships behind LSU. I'm not saying they should be higher than LSU on this list but if University of Denver could make it I don't see why they shouldn't.

I understand Forbes is a magazine primarily concerned with financial matters and which schools produce the highest salaries is certainly a factor to consider but that is not the only metric of importance when talking about the "Best academic schools". Class sizes, incoming freshman test scores, faculty prestige and a host of other factors come into play and Alabama as a whole has ranked higher than LSU when considering these factors (for one reason or another).

And this is why I love the fact that Alabama doesn't make the list, because it draws idiots to melt like this. Just because Alabama has a dominant football program, doesn't mean they are one of the best schools in the country. Academically (overall), they're average. Athletically (overall), they're below average. Why can't you accept that???

People underestimate LSU as an overall research institution.

You missed the point of the list. The number of national championships used to qualify for the list was not just football, it was all sports, male and female. The Forbes list is about being diverse, and offering a chance to succeed academically while competing in multiple sports that encompass a wide variety of athletes.
