re: LSU Hoops (4-2) vs UMASS (5-2) - Tues 12/2 - 6PM - SECN

I'll say one MAJOR thing about LSU allowing people into the paint. The NCAA has made it clear that contact with ball handlers is a foul. One small touch is all that is allowed on a drive. LSU knows it has only 4 guards so they typically err on the side of caution and let them into the paint vs fouling. Every game JG picks up a handchecking foul and the staff immediately reminds him otherwise.

Jordan Mickey just said he is 100% and will go tomorrow no doubt.
Thank God.

Without Mickey this weekend, we didn't look very good.

That is probably true. I was thinking that exact same thing earlier. I think someone else could have possibly scored his points, but I'm not really sure who it would have been. With Epps and Mickey out, we were really short on bodies.

Ahh. Been busy and hadnt been able to keep up with the games. Thanks.
same here, and quite frankly, when we lost to ODU.......I just get this bad feeling about Jones ever being able to do something at LSU. I was never big on him, but I also believe in giving someone a chance. If this season continues to progress as it has.....I just don't know. I don't expect to win the NC....I would like to compete for a spot in the trny.

Not to say it wasn't a bad loss, but Old Dominion beat #14 VCU Saturday night...

Very surprised to see LSU open as a -3 favorite. Thought it would be somewhere between +3 to -1...

Martin is struggling mightily outside of some highlight reel stuff
this has me scratching my head. he wasn't all THAT bad last year. he seems to have regressed, and i can't figure out why.
ETA: mainly his perimeter shooting

Once again, I'm right with you here. The only reason I even consider it possible he contributes in SEC play is Shavon Coleman who did it at 6'6", but even then, they are different players. Still, Bridgewater was very important to LSU this past weekend and he has very nice touch around the rim. We almost have to play zone with him in though cause a 6'4" cannot defend a post player one on one. Just won't work.
Proof's in the pudding imo. If we were judging players solely by their measurable attributes, Brees wouldn't play because of his height and Honeybadger likely doesn't sniff the field. A lot of these guys can be successful without fitting a typical mold. Jury is still out on Bridgewater imo, but I think it's ridiculous to say he's too small till we see his height being an issue. Although Mcneese St. was an inferior team, Bridgewater looked like one of our better players so I am cautiously optimistic to seeing what he is able to contribute this year and I'm hoping he surprises everyone. I had never seen him before Saturday and he surprised me.

I'd just like to apologize for what I said about Tim earlier this season. I said he's not good at basketball, and I was fricking wrong. Dude is a baller. Easily the most instinctive player on the team. I love that's he's been asserting himself into the game rather than just being a supporting piece.

I saw when you posted that, all I could do was shake my head because I knew you had a moment of negatiger weakness.

Good luck tomorrow. To have serious ncaa tourney hopes, this a game y'all have to have.

I think our biggest problem on defense is guarding too far out. I just don't get why we pick up at half court every single possession. You can't touch the ball handler, so one or 2 crosses and they are in the lane. Mcneese couldn't shoot 3's, then we let them get into the lane and kick and they drain them. I would rather stay in front of a person, and pick them up at the 3-point line. If a team goes 12/25 for 3's from a foot outside the 3 I'm fine. I'm not fine letting ppl continuously inside.
The paint is a sacred area and should be treated as such.

Really hope we pull this one out. It will definitely go a long way in boosting this team's confidence

I had high expectations for this team coming in, but once again I am disappointed. Both of our guards have been disappointments and Elbert Robinson isn't ready to make an impact. Quarterman has been a pleasant surprise this year but I don't think he belongs in the starting 5. I like the energy and passion he brings off the bench. If Mickey or Martin get in foul trouble this could be a long game. With all of this being said this is a huge week. 2-0 would be huge, I would be satisfied with 1-1, but 0-2 we would have no shot at the tourney without the automatic bid.

Anyone else think Martin s/b in the low post ? Not a good enough shooter on the perimeter.
