The shock to me has been what appears to be magnificently inept counsel for the SEC. It’s like a bunch of first year law students, actually no, a bunch of bad high school debate team members got together and just started Googling “First Amendment”, “know my rights”, “gen z oppression”. Full of histrionics and devoid of logic. All their arguments crater at level 1 of investigation. That lends me to believe JH’s theory they were just expecting LSU to take its medicine and were completely unprepared when it didn’t. The doubling/tripling down is the odd part, albeit not so odd perhaps given the fact that submission by the SEC results in the exact opposite outcome they wished for - that they are not able to govern themselves.

The stupider thing is that if they really wanted to replace the NCAA, they should have officially adopted a comprehensive set of rules and a framework all parties agree upon to replace the NCAA version. instead they are picking and choosing and attempting a power coup without bringing their best arguments into the battle.
