This, my friends, is what an effective compliance department does. Congrats to the athletic department for dealing with this so well.

Masterful job mitigating the damage, Tigers. Could have been far, far worse.

tOSU is not going to end up skating on anything. That whole investigation is still underway. They have a head coach who lied to the NCAA not to mention playing a bunch of guys he knew were ineligible.

Aubby investigation is not over.

Haha ok rambler. This is shite we all already knew about. Coach and player were kicked out of program and we self imposed these sanctions on us. Ncaa actually reduced them. I thought yall were supposed to be smart? or is that only reserved for emory students?

Just to clarify about the meaning of probation. It doesn't affect post season, bowl games, etc. It just means that the NCAA will be living in our jock straps for the next 12 months and we'll be under the "umbrella" for 5 years. Is that correct?

I'd like to thank you and Duckie for clarifying this. I really appreciate it.

Where's the pic of the girl that "aided" McCarthy? She deserves to be exposed.

You may never stop cheating by some coaches but you can certainly break them from the habit. When major violations occur by a coach like D J McCarthy, not only should he be fired but no NCAA school should be able to ever hire that coach.Sam Nader has no excuse since he has been at LSU and is older than dirt.Charles Baglio and Sherman Morris should be dismissed if they knowingly violated NCAA rules. If they violated rules because they didn't know the rules then fire them for being incompetent.

Was Sam Nader involved in this? Sorry I had not seen or heard that.

I think this whole ordeal proves that Miles runs a clean program. shite happens, a coach broke recruiting violations. It's impossible to know what everyone is doing at every moment. LSU self-imposed penalties and complied with the NCAA and has nothing to hide. Nobody got in the way of the self-punishment or tried to cover it all up. If it had to happen, this is how I want it to.

Somebody help me with this, I dont feel like reading the whole thing. EPSN's report says

quote:

The investigation found that former assistant coach D.J. McCarthy improperly arranged for transportation and housing for former defensive lineman Akiem Hicks in 2009 before later trying to cover up those actions.

What exactly did he do?

TIA

I guess now if we have a bad game this year and the Miles debate starts we wont have to hear the argument of how Miles run a clean program

He does. If he didn't, they wouldn't have come clean about what happened and self-imposed sanctions.

He does run a clean program.

When he found out about the improper recruiting of Hicks, he:

1. Never let Hicks play. He transferred at the end of the season.
2. Isolated McCarthy until the season was over by not allowing him to continue to recruit.
3. Allowed a full internal investigation to occur and LSU turned it over to the NCAA.

Probably already discussed somewhereabouts in this thread but if Hicks had extensive playing time (or even played one down) instead of getting hurt in Fall '09 practice would these sanctions have been much worse?)

Did LSU dodge a serious bullet with God smiling on them with Hicks' fall '09 injury?

No, as soon as anyone found out about recruiting violations they wouldn't let him play.

I generally agree, but I don't think Miles had anything to do with "allowing a full investigation to occur" ... don't think he had a choice.

The one thing that bothers me in this whole thing this (just thinking out loud here): Why would McCarthy do this just for Hicks? Why not other recruits? Was Hicks one of those "can't miss game changers" that McCarthy thought we absolutely had to have?
