LSU held MSU to 25 points. That is the third highest point total they have scored in an SEC game under Leech in 11 SEC games. Better than last year, but still mediocre to bad against a team that has a blueprint out to shut down their scheme. Vandy held them to 24 last year.

The defense did what they needed to do to get the W.

The offense could mot sustain drives.

We need Brennan back now.

Definitely.

Max is improving, but Brennan opens up the entire field.

No, it wasn't, per se. But people are falling all over themselves about what a great job we did "keeping them in check", with our 4 quarters of prevent defense. Sure, it was better than last year. Last year was a comedy of errors in the secondary. But the fact is that no one else in this league has had any trouble stopping them, and yet we have to treat them like they are Alabama, and people are celebrating the fact that we "only" gave up 25.

I'm glad we won the game, because I hate losing way more than I enjoy winning. But I'm not kidding myself about what I saw yesterday. I actually think think the defense can be decent this year, when they rush the passer. We've seen that they can do that. But if we're going to play scared against any offense that we think has a pulse, and use a 3 man rush, we're not going to have cupcakes like MSU to be able to get away with that.

Clearly, however, our biggest problem is we can't block, and our QB is either indecisive the few times that he has time, or he's throwing the ball into the dirt whenever he's on the run, too often. Not much happening to inspire confidence.

If Max hadn’t a second or 2 more, he’s more than competent to make the throws, it’s the OL, No running game, Not Max

They got 2 TDs in complete garbage time. I was a lot more concerned about the offense than defense yesterday.

Go back and look at their offensive roster from last year to this year. Rogers wasn’t the QB until well into the season and half the team left during or after it. Their offense is a complete rebuild, so the comparison to last year doesn’t mean much.

If the rest of the SEC does better this year, point taken, but I think you will see State rip off these kinds of performances or better against several teams down the line. Rogers has proven to be very accurate and good at taking what the defense gives. They couldn’t sustain drives against drop zones last year because they couldn’t really execute Leach’s offense. I think they can do that now.

I don’t think State will win many games, but they will score and keep more of the games close than last season. I think our performance will look about average against them at the end of the season.

Brennan is better at throwing downfield and has his strengths, but we had him last year at home against State and we had more 1st downs with him than we had with Max yesterday, but we scored less offensive points last year even though State had 4 turnovers.

I'm not sure if a bunch of people leaving translates to them being better. They didn't bring in some great recruiting class. But, ok, forget about SEC teams. Let's just consider who they've played this year. They scored 24 against NC State, 29 against a horrible Memphis defense, and 35 against perennial juggernaut, LA Tech.

If this were a typical Mike Leach "air raid" offense, you'd expect against those kinds of teams for MSU to be averaging at least 40 points per game at this juncture, before getting into the meat of their schedule. I'm sorry, MSU just isn't good, on either side of the ball. I'm not trying to ruin anyone's fun. I want to be excited just as much as anyone, but I'm also not blind. There was really nothing about that game that changed the way I feel about this team's chances. They still have the talent, but I'm looking for a lot more than this to say that we're improving, yet.

Defensive game plan was perfect given the opponent....not to mention the last 2 TD were pretty much in garbage time

If our offense sustains one more drive and finishes it with points, or sustains two or three more drives for just another set of downs, this game looks completely different than. Remember, the score was 21-3 at one point. Then the offense let up. You HAVE to smell blood in the water at that point and keep scoring and chewing up clock.

You are wrong about their defense. They were good last year. They are still good this year.

I’m not saying their offense is amazing. I’m saying they have a QB and WRs who can actually execute Leach’s scheme now. They couldn’t last year. The only reason we made them look good was because Bo refused to adjust out of a scheme that just wasn’t working.

Any way you slice it yesterday was an improvement. This is a limited team that’s going to be in a lot of close games this year.

Next week is very winable but also very loseable. We need to show up and be loud and give our boys the best chance they have to succeed.

Wow, at least there is something to be upset about regarding the defense. Two TD’s were late clean ups but they still had to drive for a dozen plays. Add in a couple of blatant bad/no calls. Through that whole 4th quarter I had the feeling that there was a couple notches that were left to turn if we got in bind. Without watching a replay, I think the defense did pretty much what it wanted to.

I think it is no e of the above. I think we need more creative running plays. I’ve watched football every weekend mini mini games and it seems that everybody can run the football except the Tigers. From what I’ve seen so far there is absolutely no imagination in the running gang it’s handball off right tackle or up the middle. We just need to have more creative running plays. Submits directions some delay draws also a screen pass or two would also illuminate some of the duress that the quarterback is Under from the pass rush.
