Long winded rant alert. Feel free to read or pass on by…either way you can get off my lawn (in this case the Enchanted Forest.)

Have been attending games and tailgating on campus since 1983. My tickets were my Grandfathers’s who graduated from LSU in 1934. My kids are 4th generation to sit in the same seats in South Endzone. LSU is like a family member at this point. And like with a family member sometimes it’s best to be honest.

The LSU gameday experience is in trouble. Multiple reasons. What I witnessed yesterday and to be honest for last couple years is troubling to me.

Rant #1 -
The non-student/alumni element coming to campus is going to lead to more and more problems. We tailgate on the North side of campus in the Enchanted Forest. Nice, quiet area. Shady. Contained area that families can let small children run around without having to worry about cars. With the early game yesterday we didn’t setup a tailgate and didn’t bring any kids. Before the game the area was its quiet self. After the game…total sh*t show. Seeing videos of fights and reports of supposed tear gas did not surprise me. We had difficulty leaving the area with people walking in streets and parking lots. Literally had to pass an abandoned vehicle in the street whose occupants had left the vehicle to twerk. None of this crowd was here for the LSU football game. Just the street party. Same crowd that came in for South Carolina game and lit up the police radar last year.

It was bad enough that my wife said I don’t know if we should bring the kids to this area again. I don’t disagree with her.

About got a contact high walking back to the car - Which leads me to Rant #2 -

I find it ironic that LSU posts multiple reminders/alerts a week about LSU being a smoke/drug free campus and shuts down the playing of Neck then pays a DJ to play over the LSU band with a song with lyrics as such -

“These hoes is drunk, wanna come and smoke this blunt
Then let me take 'em home and do anything I want
I said, baby, I can ride you, just let me get inside you
I can take you higher if you hit this vaporizer
I got that dope dick, I'll be your supplier”

This verse for the kids in attendance is even better -

“So, so we ain't sayin' nothin'
You could probably tell she bluffin'
'Cause she kiss you with the mouth
She gave me head with my concussion
Yeah, she blushin', all red
Wanna rush and go to bed
You interrogate that bitch like you the feds
So she says she in love with a rockstar, rockstar
Wanna smoke my weed, so she asks me where the tops are, tops are”

That my find folks is hypocrisy. LSU needs to have some standards. This ‘ain’t it. What crowd are we looking to attract here? You can’t complain when this is what you market.

The 7 - 8 Saturday’s we get on campus should be a celebration of Louisiana culture we can all be proud of. It’s one thing we really do well as a State. Yesterday was a poor attempt by those in operations.

I, personally, would have been embarrassed to have brought an outside fan to this game/event let alone my kids.

Do better LSU.

(sorry for the manifesto)

I agree with you on most of that, but you've got to raise the issue with the right people. One person doesn't make a difference, but I can guarantee you they are hearing about some of the rhings that go on on gamedays on campus, and the more upstanding people that decide not to bring their kids? Well now LSU is harming their potential bottom line in the future for a sector of people that don't go to LSU, haven't gone to LSU, don't spend their money on LSU, and probably won't have kids that go to LSU. The ball is in their court now.

Solution: close campus to everyone but ticket-holders and those working the game. Everyone else, keep out.

Time for BRPD to set up checkpoints and choke points entering campus.

Worth the extra traffic.

My wife and myself are LSU alums, and together with all our friend group, none of our kids attended LSU. Heard too many stories about missing students every semester, kids murdered at stop signs, etc and crime from friends in Baton Rouge. The simple truth is LSU is completely surrounded by ghettos and section 8 housing now and has been for decades. The perception is it’s not safe, and that’s the fricking truth.

Love LSU but I love my kids more. They are going to have to build a fence around LSU,

It seems to be a single permanently aggrieved demographic prone to violence as a matter of course, but no one is allowed to discuss it.

How did you think I know the lyrics. It’s a jam. Time and place.

Tiger Stadium ‘ain’t it.

But yes, I’m old and grumpy today.
