So they still call it Freshman Orientation? I would thought they would have changed the name since the 1970's.

What do you want them to call it? And why does it matter?

I prefer freshman orientation to "fish camp."

Didn't mean to stir anything up. As many times as they have messed with our LSU logo, I thought they would have changed the name at least once.

were you under the impression that freshman orientation is a uniquely LSU concept?

that's what it's called because ... that's just what it's called

Did you ever think that might be insensitive to those first year students that identify as sophomores?

They're probably afraid that a name change may confuse new students.

Plus, orientation is a five-syllable word. What more do you want?

Hey, that's a good point! Maybe it could be called "New Student Orientation" if a high percentage of new students are not Freshman. There was a day when all new students were freshman. Maybe not so much now?

False

Freshman Orientation is what's it called because that's what everyone calls it. You can't change the name, just like you can't start calling Turkey ham, it's set and cannot be changed.

Stripes is something like an extended orientation for freshman who choose to go.

After doing a google search for "New Student Orientation" I can see many universities around the country are now using this name. Not suggesting LSU change, for God's sake. I personally like New Student Orientation. It's new, refreshing and communicates all students are welcome no matter what class they come from.

Inclusion

I came from jr college and it did not bother me in the least to be at Orientation. I was a late bloomer so it was kind of fun.
