quote:Pretty tough to win SEC with 3 losses most years. Great LSU coach though, as was Miles.
he ONLY WON two sec titles in 5 years here!

You're comparing apples and eggs. Bad coaching and often less than stellar recruiting in the 1990s had brung LSU football to its knees. Saban rebuilt that program almost from the ground up.
By the time Miles got there LSU was a strong team already. His first 3 years were orchestrated mostly off the template Saban created.

Best 3 year stretch:
DiNardo: 26-9-1 (95-97)
Saban: 31-9 (01-03)
Miles: 34-6 (two different times 05-07, 10-12)
Just as Miles built off of what Saban did and made it better, Saban built off of what DiNardo did and made it better.

What about years 6-8, when he matched the same record as years 1-3?

Fat Bastard shows his arse again. I stated a simple, indisputable, empirical fact and Fat Bastard proved he couldn't understand it.

There was a tremendous amount of luck in 2010. As has been pointed out numerous times on this board, the Tigers were only a wisp away from finishing 8-5.

I did noting of the sort. OP mused about missing the glory days and posted a picture of Saban. I stated empirical data that showed that those years were not the most prolific ones.

Ok, rather than argue that ridiculous hypothetical, let’s just move to years 7-9, when Miles went 33-7 from 11-13.
Is that still credited to the mythical and long lasting Saban “template”?

We were very lucky to have Saban. Too bad for us he had to scratch the nfl itch.
How many multi-millions of dollars has "Going Cheap" cost LSU over the years? (Saban leaving....Miles buyout....Canada buyout)
Not to mention the lost prestige of multiple SEC and National Championships that LSU would've won if Saban had stayed. It most likely would've been like the current Bama dynasty.
That's what happens when you don't see the value in your product. You have to spend money now to bring in more money down the road.
Thanks Skip. (I'm not going to get into a bidding war with the Dolphins")

This is pathetic. There are coaches out there that can compete with the all mighty saban. LSU just refuses to spend money one them. So please stop this circle jerking session.

You’re blaming Bertman for Saban going to the NFL?
That was inevitable. It was always going to happen no matter what. If it wasn’t that year it would have been the next or the next.
It very nearly happened the year before with Chicago, and there were others.
If it wasn’t Miami in 05 it would have been the Saints, Houston, or St. Louis in 06, or replacing Parcells in Dallas in 07 or Blank tabbing him to go with Vick to Atlanta in 07.
There was simply too much money and interest in the next Belichick and his ego and dream of the NFL was never going away.

Oh look another Saban suckass on the wrong board

Very well said. It'd be nice if LSU had some folks in leadership with a vision and some critical thinking skills instead of a bunch of greedy, good ole boys who can't see beyond the end of their damn noses (looking at you Joe). You see other schools go get young, up and coming guys bc they've done their research and find those guys. Us? Nah, Fleck don't have enough skins on the wall yet to coach at LSU son. Soooo...we hire Ed Orgeron??!!!!!???? Visionary. Truly.
The root of the problem is evident on this board. There is a segment that will go to their graves defending this shite bc it's LSU and by God, Ed is one of us. That's the same mentality that keeps this program from maintaining a place at the elite level.

I truly appreciate what Saban did in raising the program to a level that I, as a long time fan, felt it was capable of reaching. Those were great days and it is a shame he left as you could see him reaching the reloading level, which would sustain long term success.
I appreciate what Les Miles did (for the most part) in maintaining program recruiting and competitiveness.
The mistake was made in not having a solid plan to transition away from Miles following the 2015 season. It will end up setting our program back a few years. Hopefully, the new A.D. we eventually get will move quickly to end this current experiment and hire a true leader, program steward and effective head coach.
