Based on this ruling by the NCAA, I don’t see what’s stopping any recruit who can claim a hardship from using this to get $$.

How would the recruits know which schools “fans” are donating to them, though? Wouldn’t multiple fan bases all be donating at the same time? I assume the donations would have to annonymous for the NCAA to allow it

So the NCAA is willing to make concessions for a rich kid who has pissed off her family in the name of Gay rights, but refuses to budge on kids who just don't have any family or just poor families? Par for NCAA

No. that's not how this works.

To start wasnt she already on the team and not a recruit? How did you come to this conclusion from that article?

Was there another instance of this happening (relating to a poor family or a kid with no family) and the NCAA shut it down? I don't know. I'm legitimately asking.

Only thing I can really recall remotely similar was that kid at I think UCF with his YouTube

My point is, they’ve opened up this can of worms by allowing it to happen and in what way could they reasonably allow this for her, but deny someone who’s family may have lost a parent and doesn’t have housing...

The argument the ncaa used against him, is the opposite of what’s happening here

Did you read it?

quote:

“Emily Scheck can retain her eligibility and continue to receive GoFundMe donations that assist her with living and educational expenses,” the association shared via Twitter on Friday. “NCAA staff worked with Canisius College to provide guidance that the fundraiser can continue with school monitoring and will continue to assist as needed. NCAA rules and waiver precedent allow a school to assist a student-athlete with a fundraiser after a significant life event occurs.”

Specifically

quote:

NCAA rules and waiver precedent allow a school to assist a student-athlete with a fundraiser after a significant life event occurs.

The conclusion you are drawing is the exact opposite of this.

It is a little ridiculous, though. If you're already destitute, no go with the cash but if you're suddenly destitute because of choices you or your parents make, well...

It's a gay deal. If this was some poor kid on the street more or less, especially a male, wouldn't be OK.

But this is some rich white gal who is proud of being gay and the entire world blows a gasket.

Screw all this political correct crap.

Yes, so long as they claim that they are homosexual and their parents disowned them for that reason -- and they have to be pictured with their homosexual lover.

Are all of you really that upset that she got money or that she is gay?

The whole OP makes no sense to begin with if you read the article.

I could care less if she's gay or if she gets all the money in China.

What I do care about is the inconsistency with the NCAA and how they seem to rule depending on who it is and which way the wind is blowing.

I will again say though if this had been a white or black heterosexual male football player getting money via GoFund they would have stopped it.
