I thought I just did. I am asking if whatever environment that allowed McMahon to go 31-3 and undefeated in conference at Murray could be recreated at LSU for him to have success.
again, not necessarily for him to go 31-3 but to finish in the top 5 or top half of the conference and get a ticket to the dance?
whatever factors enabled success for him back then, this is impossible to recreate now, because mcmahon is a shite coach catapulted to a 31-3 season by dumb luck and institutional support?
Posted on 3/24/25 at 10:40 pm to drizztiger
For Mcman to do this he would have to totally swallow his pride and re-invent his offense to a more modern style and identify what kind of players he needs to do that. Is it impossible? No, there are some who have done it. College coaches aren’t complete dumb arse and are capable of doing thiis and I by no means think Mcman is a total retard. But I know if I wee a coach and have had a record like this the last 3 years I’d defintley go back to the drawing board and change my approach cause what he’s been doing just doesn’t work

maybe the change in strategy needed isn't so much a coaching style change but a fundraising style change, a change in how much pressure he puts on the school for support, the way will wade did

I hope you’re right, but let me ask ya something, with the NIL comming in. Last year lsu had a top 15 class right? Even with a NIL increase, do you think we can do better than that? Do you think we jump to a top 5 class? I’m not trolling, I just want to know what your opinion is on this
Posted on 3/24/25 at 10:53 pm to Primeminister337
Doesn’t matter what you run when you’re sloppy at every fundamental and awareness aspect of the game
Posted on 3/24/25 at 10:55 pm to Primeminister337
To both of you guys, it’s not out of the realm of possibility. I would never say that.
But yes, he would need to do something he’s never proven to do. That would be building a program that wasn’t already established and adjust his coaching and mindset accordingly.
I promise all of you, I want nothing more than LSU MBB to be successful. But ignoring the writing on the wall and cherry picking history to prove a contention doesn’t help. It’s only because someone has that starting point and will DIAF to prove it.
That is never me.

I appreciate your civility
the class was rated fairly highly, but I don't think they turned out to be very talented. for example givens and bailey were very poor shooters. along with non shooters like chest I think it allowed defenses to sag and clog the lane and destroy the offense. I don't think you can play modern basketball without at least 4 shooters on the floor at all times.
now, you can say, "well mcmahon was tasked with choosing players who could actually shoot, you stupid clown!" and I while I discourage the name-calling, I agree, ultimately it was bad player assesment that led to poor shooting players. or maybe poor development, not teaching these kids to shoot and rebound better.
however, it seems conceivable to me that McMahon was limited by player payment budget constraints. there have been reports making this claim. I cannot disprove these claims and have no connection to any information whatsoever. perhaps the school is dastardly and leaking lies. how should I know. for all I know, it is true that McMahon had less money than other teams. I am not saying that the only thing that matters is money, merely that having more money is better than not, all other things being equal. I am in fact paraphrasing will wade here from an interview with barstool mintzy, which I can link. wade says, for example, that bama may not be in the top 5 in funding, but have spent wisely.
it seems possible to me that with a more competitive budget, and a little tiny bit of luck with how players turn out, McMahon could improve. that's all I am saying. and everyone is losing their fricking shite about it.

He had money. He landed Cook when he was the top PG in the portal. He didn’t do that with rainbows and unicorns, he had money. How did that work out.
Jalen Cook was the 11th ranked PG in that transfer class, 49th player overall. He's also a Louisiana born and bred player who had previously spent time at LSU. Lets not act like those things are the same. McMahon has never had even somewhat close the NIL budget he will have this offseason. Maybe he fails, maybe he doesn't, but that's indisputable.

Again they shot the ball well last season so how could he afford shooters last season but not this one?

I feel ya drizz, you know I just love lsu basketball and wouldn’t not care who our coach is as long as he’s getting the job done. I like most of the people who post here, I’m all about the program and not intentionally out to attack coaches
Posted on 3/24/25 at 11:01 pm to drizztiger
If he wants people to start believing this go sign Oumar Ballo and Treysen Eaglestaff tomorrow.

Madking, you’re right about the sloppy play and turnovers and fundamentals, it’s mind blowing. So when I. Say his offense needs to change, and I k ow you know this already but, ever since Villanova won it and Jay Wright’s spread our offense became a staplle, it showed a way for schools that didn’t have size to compete with high 3 point shooting and quickness. Like every sport it’s a copy cat league and many coaches, especially at the mid major level have adopted this style and kinda tweaked it to how they like it. I’m just saying McMan hasn’t evolved his coaching style for quite a few years now and his record reflects it for the past 5 or so years.me and you have had countless conversations about how offenses evolve

For lack of a better term - assholes - they want to say I'm a Will Wade cuck because I enjoy LSU MBB success. Those - again, assholes - were never around when I'm supporting 2-16 TJ/CJJ seasons, 9-9 Simmons year prior, actually an optimist when we hired Trent. I have such disdain for those guys. That's why we have a circle of posters here than don't agree on every thought, but know that we fricking care.

was told by a UR booster, and a couple of other posters on here have "verified" that Bailey was paid $450k to come here.
Other posters on here verified that bailey got 450k to come to lsu?
If that is true mcmahon should be fired for giving him that amount of money.
What posters confirmed it?

Ya I read you and madkings post all the time, and I’m one of the ones who get yall. People on here mistake hate for love of the program. And what’s a message board of ya can’t be objective right. I can easily tell the guys who know basketball. It’s been a Major part of my life but I don’t post as much as I should on here because the dumbass’s have their mind set already, and that outweighs the few like you who get it. But when it comes to X’s and O’s coaching philosophy I can argue with the heat of them, unless they are ignorant and just don’t want to know

This whole point of a message board like TD is sharing and discussing. It ends up a complaint fest, but I wish we had a board just for LSU MBB. I could name most of the posters that would contribute in honesty, transparency and regularity. Not drive-by pseudo fans:

lol lay funny story, so one of my good friends and former boss was a D1 head coach back in the day and made it to the tourney a good amount of times. And you k ow how people like us are, always eating a LSU hoodie or hat, half my closet is purple and gold lol. And he always picked in LSU and would laugh at me. So I asked him, coach, why he hate on lsu lol. And he told me, I do t hate the players are the school, but the administration, media, and fans are a shite show. Always thinking they better than they are and have built in excuses for when things go wrong. I was young and never saw it, till I joined this board. Holy cow! I can see why people not from this state laugh at us so much lmao

I will say we're not the only fanbase that isn't immune to it.
I do not like the adage, personally, but it's pretty much a staple of LSU fanbase lore is to go undefeated, win a NC and then fire the coach. It's both overblown, but still has traction.
