GASU only had 98 yards of offense. That’s playing a huge part

We’ve been facing spread teams for years though so why is this the year it’s changed?

I’d say ppg is THE most important stat.

For winning but not for judging how good a defense is

Right because it’s not about winning at all.

nd our numbers are still in line with the other 5 who have only played scrub teams.

Off the top of my head Clemson played 2 conference games and A&M.

Although somewhat true, our tackling the last two games has been poor and even though Texas and Northwestern St. passed it a combined 89 times, we still don't have one interception on the season even though we have 2 projected 1st rounders in the secondary along with Stingley. And Delpit has been almost silent in terms of impactful plays. There is just a feeling that this D can be so much more with the pure talent that is on the field. Fortunately, they still have a number of weeks to resemble what people have in their minds before hitting the meat of the schedule.

It’s not about our defense versus the spread so much as it is our defense getting used to our new offense.

We’ve had something crazy like 18 3 minute scoring drives this year, which is drastically different from previous years. This D just needs to figure out how to adjust to being on the field more than they are used to.

But to say, the defense today could beat Bama, Oklahoma, Clemson would be false

I'm not sure how because they only had 198 yards of offense. Still, LSU dominated them and shut their run game down, so LSU's defense has to get credit for that.

Yards? Yards per game is one of the more meaningless stats for a defense.

Yards by itself could be misleading

But it is by no means "meaningless"

Last night the defense didn’t get a stop in the first qtr and NW st had the ball for 10 min. Against Texas our defense was completely rested when they gave up the 19 play drive. Those were rested defenses. We won TOP in the 1st half against Texas.

We were certainly gassed after that 19 play drive at TX with insane heat on the field. It comes down to little things and the fact we need to play more man and less zone. Secondary over all is not as bad as some want it to be or making it out to be (usual suspects). But I do feel Vincent is liability so far and he needs much improvement.

Not at all. These are just stats for the top 6 Ranked teams to show how similar all are.

I think our secondary is great. I also think Vincent is better than most think but since opposing OC’s are looking to attack our weakest db he is going to look worse than if we didn’t have 2 lock down nfl cbs and they were attacked more...slot receivers are the way to attack us
