like having the visitor pen on the field. I think it’s much harder mentally being that close to heckling fans while trying to get in the right head space

I’m dealing with all those names on that drawing (architect, engineer, etc) on a separate project in south Louisiana. They’re professional and helpful.

Mention to them that drawing isn't going to be popular. Not that it matters if that's what the LSU Board wants.

So will this give us a completive advantage by being able to hide who is working in the pen? Seems like we will be able to see the visitors pen, but our will be obstructed.

When are they gonna upgrade the batters eye? It'll probably save them money in the long run because I'm sure they need to throw some new garbage bags up there weekly.
Do you want a new batters eye or do you want to spend money on player development facilities that help us win? Apparently we can’t have both so obviously we have to keep all the cheap rinky dink shite in the stadium.

It really was on brand for LSU to conceptualize a new stadium, but the concept began and ended with let's make it exactly the same as the old stadium with suites and a limited access club. Let's even drag the old seats over for the outfield and build a hefty bag batter's eye reminiscent of the old Metrodome. They even had to replace the batter's eye in 2010 because of weather-related damage and still put the same thing back there.

Of course, even the complete catering to suite owners wasn't executed at a high level as they opted to open the stadium with exposed beams and a promise to actually finish the grandstand area later, which they did in 2011.

The LSU vision for expansion is always "exactly like last time" and "aim at the smallest number of fan experiences as you can."

I’m sure they know by now that if they had that whole right field section allotted with lazy boys and electric dick massagers LSU fans would still complain.

Maybe. In reality, however, LSU gave fans plenty to complain about in the concept, design, and execution of the new box. We'll never know what the complaints would be if LSU did something truly great because they haven't done anything great with the baseball stadium for the vast majority of fans.

Here's a list of value added for the fans. More parking, the best of which is pay. Suites, which most fans don't experience. A limited access club, which most fans don't experience. Pathetic sponsored cupholders installed in the last 10 years or so on the chairback seats. Self-serve concessions that are more recent. Beer for suite and club owners which most people didn't experience until beer was allowed at events. Aluminum backs on the benches down the line. That's pretty much it.

Absolutely no reason to not have chairbacks down the line in the Box.

Every seat in that place should be a chairback, including the outfield. No need for people to sit on aluminum bleachers in 2024. Aluminum benches, even with the faux seat backs, are the epitome of cheap.

It’s college baseball. There’s nothing wrong with a little bush league.

I know I’m in the minority but moving the bullpens is personally close to last on my list of Alex Box improvements.

Technically they are not moving the left field bullpen off the field, just pushing it back and fencing it in.
That's kind of dumb.

I'm sure those front row season ticket holders down both lines are gonna be real happy they no longer have front row seating.

Plus they are actually taking away foul ground as well with the new seating.

All Jay wants is the indoor infield facility, he is not worried about the fan experience, he leaves that to the facilities people.

PMAC and Natatorium are dumps and where is all the money going? To coaching buyouts? I realize cost of construction is high right now as well.

You should probably actually look at the images and renderings. The quoted part of the article does not accurately describe what is being done and this take is inaccurate for the same reason.

I’m not saying it’s unheard of, but there are other considerations like a new track and a new basketball arena.

Baseball isn’t the only sport on campus. There are other sports fighting over a limited number of dollars.

Yeah some people don't get this. I want the Box to get major improvements just as much as anyone else, but there is only so much money, and there are a lot of different improvements and projects that people want done. Whenever people say Texas A&M and other schools have more money than LSU, this is what they are talking about. Last year the 12th Man Foundation presented Texas A&M Athletics with a check for $160 million. LSU isn't touching that amount of money.

I'm looking at the plans now, what did he say that is incorrect?

I don’t see why they just don’t put them both in center field if they have room for them. Instead of moving of the left field and right field bleachers. Many fields have the bull pens in center field

There are several u.g. cooling water lines that run along the centerfield fence. The cost to re-route the lines or span across them w/ a foundation would be extreme.

The location of the cooling water lines is also the reason for the "lightweight construction" of the batters' eye.

From the rendering, it doesn't look like we will be able to see into the bullpen from other parts of the stadium. I would hope they make it look more like the bullpen in Omaha
