if we can split xavier/tennessee, win at least 9 conference games and 2 games in the sec tournament, i think we're in the dance.

Going into the Utah game, I wasn't worried about Neville if:
1)He had to EARN his points. That wasn't the case since he was like 11-13 from the field
2)We didn't let anyone else on the team kill us, which also wasn't the case.
3)We matched them by scoring from the outside

Your right S, last night was the perfect storm.
If we shoot like shite from the outside, we won't win many games. Also, if we allow almost 70% shooting from the other team, we won't win either.
Up to this point, we've been pretty good defending the perimeter. So I think last night was somewhat of a mirage, at least I hope so.

RPI and SOS will have to improve.Bama had 24 wins a few years ago and didn't go dancing.

shite, unless LSU wins 12-13 games in SEC play (which I don't see happening), they might need to beat both Xavier and Tennessee. Unfortunately, I just don't see them winning in Knoxville. Maybe they can take down the Vols in the SEC tourney and score one victory over Arkansas.

They have lost 4 out of their last 6 games. Doesn't look too good.

By the way, congrats on another great victory last night. Arkansas is looking scarier and scarier by the day...

Slack, my apologies, I meant this particular season. I was in an hour long meeting and actually thought about how I should probably change the title.

No problem. I didn't realize that you were actually making a legitimate post. There's no way I'm reading that essay you wrote. I should have kept my mouth shut.

Its all about individual matchups, our ability to have 5 guys on the floor who can make(some nights) mid-range to long-range jumpers will cause some teams trouble. That being said teams with good post players(there are only a few in the sec)will give us fits unless TJ commits to double teaming the post more.I still see us winning 9-10 games in the conference.

It's Year One for Coach TJ. He can't turn around 10+ years of what Brady did to our program over night.

You imply all 10 seasons were the same. You conveniently fail to note that Brady inherited a moribund program which had four straight losing seasons and only 18 SEC victories during that span. The program was under the cloud of NCAA investigation which resulted in draconian sanctions. Brady inherited one quality player , Maurice Carter.

Trent inherited a program just two years removed from the Final four which had gone through only two losing seasons in the past nine. During the prior seven year stretch there were 3 SEC
West titles, 2 SEC championships, a Final Four and a Sweet 16 appearance. This is a far cry from a program that needs to be turned around after 10 years of Brady.

Let him have 2 full years to recruit players that he wants and then we can have this conversation again

After two years of recruiting Brady had the Tigers in the Sweet 16.

At this moment Brady's Arkansas State team has a 109 RPI and LSU is 125.

Just saying.

Still Early. But thats not to take away what brady has done at asu.Has won more games already than what asu did last year.

The guy can flat coach. He just has little interest in working the media for PR like Bruce Pearl does.

The RPI differential won't last , but one has to admit it is an interesting early season development.

Coach Johnson needs to get a few recruiting classes in before we can expect much change: two more years of stockpiling talent before we should expect a big improvement.

stro,

great post as always.

one thing that aggravates the crap out of me is the lack of getting the ball down low. i've seen it over and over again this year where Q will get it just outside the block, the defense collapses leaving someone wide open for a 3 from the corner.

im not suggesting we go inside and try to win it with post offense, but that pass down low ALWAYS collapses the defense, resulting in open perimeter shots.

i've noticed they start doing it more in the 2nd half in most games this year. not sure what the deal is. it looks obvious to me.
