They won CUSA. 23-8.
they are not very good at all.
i dont think they've beaten a ranked team all year.

Because they lost arguably a top 3 coach in the country ?
that's obvious. Do you think Pastner has done a good job of sustaining success?

Pitt, UConn, and Syracuse are all gone to the ACC.
My mistake then. I knew Cuse was but I couldn't remember the other schools.
Did UConn really go to the ACC ? I forget sometimes with all these schools moving.

Yes I do. NCAA tournament team back to back seasons. The recruiting job he has done is really great. This is his first chance as HC and only in his 3rd year doing it. He's what 38 years old ? Pretty impressive.

He's 34. And pretty much a genius.
Posted on 3/4/12 at 12:02 am to MrWiseGuy
Cal had 1 CUSA loss his last 4 years
Pastner has 12 in 3 seasons.
i dont know, i dont think he has sustained it very good, at least not to the level you are touting.
With that talent they shouldnt struggle as much as they are in conference.
they played a handful of ranked teams this year and couldnt beat any of them. And lost to Tim Floyd coach UTEP team in conference, among others.

Not officially. Just Cuse and Pitt right now

I personally don't think Pastner has done anything to make us want him as a #1 choice.
He certainly wouldn't be the worst hire though.

Yeh Ive read that about him as well. Very intelligent man.
All I'm saying is that it took a guy like Saban to turn our football program around. It took money to get Saban down here. At the time when he was hired, Saban was paid as one of the highest paid coaches in the conference. I think if you want results in the basketball program then you are going to have to pay to bring someone in here that can turn this around.

My mistake. I'm sure they'll end up there though.

I like coaching searches. I'll definitely be more involved in this potential one for basketball than any one at LSU in my life.
Posted on 3/4/12 at 12:11 am to The Boat
i say we use a different search firm this time.

Cal is on a whole different level then a lot of guys. I think we all agree with that.

13-3 records two of those years. Pretty good records.

I'm not saying he's Calipari. And I certainly understand what you are saying, that you'd like to see him do it a little more. What I'm saying is that he is only 34. In only his 3rd year as a head coach. He hasn't really had much of an opportunity to do it.

Their 3 losses were by a combined 5 points. Could have easily won them all.

Let's not pick a guy because he orders the same thing as Alleva at some Chinese place on the San Antonio boardwalk this time.

Yeah.
Shaka Smart
Tim Floyd
Brad Stevens
Gregg Marshall
Josh Pastner
I want them all.

Smart and Stevens aren't reasonable. Pastner is too unknown. Floyd and Marshall are the only choices on that list. I'd prefer Marshall, but after reading this thread, I wouldn't be so upset with Floyd.

That dude with the crazy long post in this thread actually did a good job. I wouldn't mind Floyd. I wouldn't prefer him but I would be ready for him to get strarted.

Both Smart and Stevens are pretty out there, yeah.
I can hope though.

Gregg Marshall would be a great choice in my opinion.
