re: LSU Basketball is in a state of duress. We went from contending to not even relevant.

Oh no I didn’t think he was. I was kind of describing the type of fans he was addressing earlier.

Oh ok, gotcha. My misunderstanding.

The lack of support, planning, direction and financial commitment is unbelievable. That’s the thing people who dismiss the idea that the admin is neglecting the program don’t get. There’s no administrative basketball personnel, it’s run like a Mcneese level program.

I thought we would be much better than we have turned out to be. My preseason guess was 9-9 in conference. I was encouraged that McMahon, on paper, seemed to have put together a representative team. The pre SEC games made me very nervous because we were barely beating teams we should have dominated. But we still won all but one. The first two SEC games were over the top as we beat Arkansas who was supposed to be good and almost beat the great Kentucky. Neither of those two teams lived up to billing either.
After the Kentucky game it was almost like a switch had been thrown and they were never the same team again. What happened? Did the team start fighting among themselves? Did they resent the way McMahon was coaching them? For whatever reason it was all over for the rest of the season.
Both the coach and players can share the blame. McMahon wanted them to play his slow down offense and have the big men switch from outside to inside and the guards dribble around until KJ was open for a three or underneath. Our only other option was to try to set up Miller for a three pointer. It didn't work very well and Coach MM couldn't come up with any adjustments to make it work.
The players are to blame for incredibly sloppy play, shoddy ball handling , missing shot after shot even when they were wide open layups or short shots under the basket. Some games they hustled and played good defense, others they were lazy and gave up easy shots while we couldn't score.
A train wreck of a season and one that probably won't be much better next year. We have a desperate need for guards that can handle, drive and shoot with efficiency. Our chances of getting them probably not good.

Posts like this crack me up.
We are dead fricking last in the SEC. This wasn’t a slightly disappointing hiccup of a season. This was a flying a plane into a mountain kind of season.

everyone uses the same sword. I guess WW was just extra careless with said sword. Arrogance was probably the issue. That, plus the inability to find a button down shirt to fit properly. Perhaps the latter more so than the former. Even if it's a first round loss, it's nice to have that hope on the first day of the Big Dance. I suggest spending lots of time in the sportsbook in coming weeks. We can find many other teams to pull for.

No.
Instead of the entire LSU admin trying to CYA themselves and acting like scared bitches form the NCAA and offer WW a little support during the battle with Dickie V., Pat Forde, Pete Thamel and the NCAA, there is a real probability we would be playing in the tournament this March.

So when Wade was fired, then every player entered the portal and every recruit decommitted, what did you think would happen?
It's not important what we thought would happen.
Its what did Wide Woody think would happen?
Next time you pass Woody in the hall, ask him. Inquiring minds want to know.
Did he really think this out before he fired Wade or was Tate adamant about making the change?

Those were literally the only viable options . Fountain has horrible hands and when he catches the ball clean has trouble finishing around the basket. Hayes has some ability but doesn’t share the ball very well. Miller started driving to the basket at the end of the year, but is prone to losing the ball. Hannibal is a bowling ball, but not a great ball handler. I don’t know what a coach can do when the team has such a poor 2pt shooting percentage. Maybe press and focus on defense, but the guards were not good against the dribble.

“Fountain has trouble finishing around the basket”
Derrick Fountain - 58.1% on 2pt FGs

How many of those misses were from point blank range? I guess I’m just remembering the missed layups and put-backs at critical points in the game. I’m surprised he’s hitting almost 60% but won’t argue with facts. I actually like Fountain as a player but he needs to get stronger in the off-season.

Agree, if he can put on 10-15lbs and carry it we’ll have a really nice player in Fountain.

quote:thank Woodward for a ridiculously long contract with a huge buyout. Same guy who gave Jimbo the ridiculous 10 year fully guaranteed A&M contract.
We just have to ride it out and suffer until we can afford to fire him.
But hey, it’s not his money.
Posted on 3/5/23 at 6:56 pm to atltiger6487
So I’ve been attacked for suggesting this but that contract is why I bring it up. Isn’t it cheaper for the little piglet to pay McMahon 2.5-3 mil per year for 5-7 years than it is to spend 20-25 million on a basketball facility plus the renovations needed to the PMAC plus a real coach’s salary and the recruiting expenses that were severely cut when Wade was fired as well as the NIL money you’ll save with McMahon bringing in table scrap recruits? This coaching change looks more and more like a cost cutting operation by an AD who doesn’t care about the basketball program.

He's paying the women's coach north of 3 MM, he cares about basketball. This is Wade's debacle.

That "Piglet" you speak of hired Brian Kelly and Kim Mulkey. Have a tiny bit of faith. I'm surprised you aren't in rehab yet.
