And saw that Landry was clearly better in CF than Mahtook for the last 2 years. Haha.

I mean if mahtook were so good he'd have started over landry from day one. Forget the fact that usually an upper classmen usually has to perform poorly for a freshmen to take his spot
Landry is just hands down the better centerfielder that's why he plays there when subbed in.....oh wait

CajunRevolution already pulled out the race card once, I'm anxious to see when he actually calls me a racist flat out instead of just hinting at it.
ETA: Here is the quote from him:

It's easy to forget the great grabs by Landry after 1 ESPN highlight. Look I know people swear by this white kid, like a cult following, and it's great. Landry just looks faster and a better fielder.

Funny he even mentions the espn highlights since that's basically the reason everyone thinks leon is so amazing in the outfield.

Here's a good link from TSN on LSU Tigers and Signees in 2009 MLB Draft.
That link mentions Zach Lee as not getting drafted, but he isn't eligible to be drafted until the 2010 draft. But otherwise, pretty good info.

Pulled out the race card? I point out an unusual affinity a bunch of people have for this kid and i'm pulling a card. I stated that I think Landry is a better defensive centerfielder. No question Mahtook is better with the bat. I think Landry covers more space. Whether you disagree is your opinion. You're pointing out that when they pull LF when winning by 8 runs they don't slide Mahtook over. If Mahtook was the superior player it wouldn't have taken 30 games to figure it out. The guy is great. Has a great bat but don't throw Landry's fielding skills under the bus because Mahtook has a nice swing of the bat. I can remember a few times this year Mahtook being wary of the wall when trying to make a play. Being tentative is great but Landry's defense always kept him in the lineup. Mahtooks bat combined with formidable defense finally worked him out of it. Not because Landry was deficient at Centrr. He'll, Marineri got Jared in right. He might prefer speed on the edges but Schimph disproved that but he has a bat.

You specifically mentioned that there is a cult-like following for the "white kid" and also made mention of an Oreo outfield.

And several people have given evidence as to why that isn't the case.
quote:

Actually it's not up to opinion. It's a measurable attribute. So thinking one covers more space does not necessarily make it true. It would be the same as thinking that 2+2=5.

So you feel that Nola is not better defensively than Lemahieu because it took so long to make the switch?

You seem to think that Mahtook is staying in CF because of his hitting, but when both are in the lineup he is still in CF. So obviously that is not the case.

So, playing with reckless abandon > than reading a ball off the bat and getting a good jump? OK, so be it. FWIW, I like that Landry plays with reckless abandon.

His defense keeps him in LF now when he is in the lineup because him in left and Mahtook in center is better for the team.
quote:

No, as stated earlier, Leon's slump is what did him in, Mahtook's bat got him in the lineup, his glove and instincts have kept him in CF.
quote:He is by no means deficient in center, he is a very good centerfielder, it's just that Mahtook is better.
Not because Landry was deficient at Centrr.

Mainieri prefers the best mix of players that will get him a win. And since we're on a pretty good streak right now, I'd say he's found it.

Fwiw randy ziegler isn't coming back to LSU next year

I have heard this too. And it's a shame. I think the kid was gonna be a helluva player(not just pitcher).

quote:this makes me think we have a good shot at him. I would think the phillies would throw more money around then the twins esp more for a 4,7 round guy than the twins would on a 10th round pick of a guy that is a dh.
He got calls from the Philadelphia Phillies in the fourth and seventh rounds, but he turned down their offers because he felt the money was insufficient. He was finally picked in the 10th round by the Minnesota Twins.
I could be looking at it all wrong but just going off the nature of the team that drafted him id say they would try to go cheap

what's the reason for Ziegler not returning? I was really high on that kid, a shame.

Nobody else thinks Chad Jones will start in the OF? Is it because we will be relying on him as a pitcher or that he may go pro in football?
