Is the lefty, Cabrera, in the hunt for a weekend starter role? Who is most likely gonna earn the Sunday spot? Thanks..

No.

Cabrera will be in the line up every day. If the fall is any indication he may pitch some in relief.

Third starter is unknown as of now.

Do we have a lefty vying for that spot?

Todd Peterson is going to start at Sunday but it’ll work itself out over the year. We’ll have a great idea who’s gonna be by conference play.

Yea, I'm hoping one of those guys steps up big. I prefer to have at least 1 southpaw in the rotation.

Friday: Gilbert
Saturday: Hess
Sunday: D. Fontenot

Just my opinion.

Too early to say. We've got a lot of new arms to work with though, hopefully some of them step up like Hess and Walker did last year.

Judging by what CPM said today, Cam Sanders will get a chance to show his worth in mid weeks. If he is comparing him to Nola, then you have to think he is ultra high on the kid, and he could potentially take over Sunday.

There are a handful of guys who can start on Sunday to start the season.

Walker won’t be ready?

If not then I like Bush for that role

No. Had surgery. Out all of '18.

Walker's next pitch for LSU won't be until the 2019 season. We may see him throw some for a summer team this summer as part of his re-acclimation, but even that may be doubtful.

If Hess is going to be used like Coleman (for the record, I don't know that he will) that would push him to Friday. We haven't really seen Paul bust that out in several seasons, but Hess might be the guy to do it.

Starting pitching is going to be pretty shakey at first. I’m still not convinced Hess will be as good as a starter

How about Cameron Sanderson. Maybe a sleeper???

ETA: I missed HoldThatTiger's post.

Based on the way Hess throws, he's not a candidate for a role like that. Too much effort and violence in his delivery. Plus, we saw arm soreness pop up after his frequent post season usage, so a weird usage pattern should not be on the table for Hess. Or Hess will end up on the table.

We don't really need a guy to fit that role anyway, but Gilbert seems much more like it than Hess.

With Labas hurt and Sanders being proclaimed the midweek starter, signs point to Peterson and Fontenot being the main candidates for Sunday. I think it will be Peterson, because the way Fontenot was used in the Fall indicates they want to use him multiple times in a weekend.

Hess will not be used like Coleman at any point during the season. He will not start on Friday and then come out the pen on Sunday. Only exception to that would be in Omaha in an absolute must win situation, but even then I doubt you see it. Contrary to rantards beliefs, CPM is usually pretty protective of his pitchers.

We may not, but the way the bullpen outside of Hess (who had to be moved to sure it up) and Newman performed last year, an extra shutdown arm might be necessary (if others don't step up). At the beginning of the year, we had like a 2015 (?) Arkansas bullpen problem.
