There was a media report a few days ago noting that CJJ was in Calif. recruiting. A big state with a lot of schools, any big stud out there he mite be recruiting?

Updated with the addition of Mac Bingham. That puts us at 57/40 pending draft signings. We're more realistically closer to 42 or 43 over 40.

Puts us at 45/40 with Little coming back and Bingham added. Only players IMO in question right now is Larson and Coleman. Larson I have included in the 45 and Coleman I do not have included as of now.

Looks right. I don't have Reaves on it yet. Still never got confirmation he will actually be at LSU for next baseball season. I am counting Lape in my 45 also even though he will likely redshirt due to TJ.
So if you don't count Reaves or Lape then the roster would sit at 43.

I know this is not the thread to speculate on specific players potentially leaving, but do they have until midnight tonight to enter the portal? I wonder if we see a couple names trickle out having put their names in today? Not necessarily due to roster numbers, but more about easier avenues to get on the field.

It was midnight last night, but the lag in the process means there could be guys in the portal that we don't currently know about yet.

Also remember that Jay believes in the redshirt year for guys that can contribute, but maybe not right away. He's used it at all this stops.
We could see some guys in the crowded position groups redshirt, and I would guess it's been part of the conversation with some of them since their recruitment began.

Yeah, I haven’t even been factoring in redshirts. I assumed they counted towards the 40 before you cleared it up earlier. Do they have to be declared before the season or can you wait and see if you can get away without using them? Although I guess they could always declare it and take it off mid-season if forced to by injury or poor play.

If we have 40 on the roster on day 1 they wouldn’t be able to jump on the roster. Can’t change that list once the season starts.

Ahh, I guess it is different than football then. Makes it more difficult. I wonder who Jay might not have redshirted if he’d known Shores and Edwards were gonna get hurt. Wonder if that will change how he builds his 40 moving forward. But you don’t want to overcorrect the other way either. Maybe you just count on a couple of pitchers getting hurt every year and just hope they’re not starters/high leverage pen guys.
There are just so many new things to consider now. COVID and the shortened draft has caused a clutter of college guys that hasn’t worked itself out yet. And now there’s not the extra 5 spots. And NIL and the portal. Lots of moving parts. I do think the temptation is to knee jerk and maybe overreact.
I’m gonna use these guys as simply examples of Jay possibly doing that, not calling them out specifically. But do you think what happened with Young last year and us being in Omaha and Jay not being able to be out in the road recruiting caused him to jump on Braswell a bit earlier than he probably wanted to? And now that Hill is available he probably wishes he’d have waited a bit? Again, not a criticism of Jay, just an example of how hard this new terrain is to navigate.

If Travinski comes back where does Frey go. Because I could def see Frey at DH especially with Mic now coming from Zona seems that outfield is Kling Mic and Pearson. Maybe Frey and Pearson battle for RF strictly. Idk going to be a lot questions this off season and we’re not even done in portal there are going to be redshirts have to be given and maybe some attrition
