You don't just start getting bad after having the season he had his Freshman year. His fastball was very flat and one person pointed out to me about tipping is pitches. Makes sense.

He had like 4 good starts.

There is a reason why no one drafted him out of high school and why Mainieri didn't guarantee him a spot coming into the fall.

7-3 and out did Gausman. I'm not saying he was a God or anything, but he had "the stuff" back in 2011. Never really found it after that

Or the season he had that year was a bad pitcher having a few good outings.

No one is trying to take anything away from him. But we're not cutting him any slack either. Good success his first year. Up and down but mostly down his next 3. It's 1000 times more likely that found good luck that first year than bad luck all the other years.

McCune also had a bad back for a while, which is a killer for a pitcher.

Was he ever an ace? Nope. We will never be able to fill a lineup with only guys drafted in high school.

Was he worth his scholarship? Absolutely.

With 14-18 pitchers (subject to injuries, etc) on the roster, it is critical to have the depth provided by a 4 year senior and "team guy" like McCune.

I have never really gotten the hate for the Cune. He has been a solid program pitcher.

@KendallRogersD1: Some interesting stuff likely happening soon in #CollegeBaseball. Strong feeling the Power 5 will approve adding another full-time assistant

That would be awesome. High Schools have more assistants than college.

He was about average for LSU, IMO. Solid for an Arkansas or Ole Miss, but not LSU.

He was a program player. Nothing wrong with that.

I'm not saying there was. And I don't think I'm being negative by calling him an average LSU pitcher. That's still pretty good.

Ell, who will be our Fri Sat and Sun starters (Starting Pitchers) to open the year?

Give me your starters and who you think Mainieri will start.

to open the year
PM:

Friday - Poche
Saturday - Lange
Sunday - Bouman

Me:

Saturday - Lange
Sunday - Godfrey

I have no problem with Poche being the first guy out. He deserves it and I think wouldn't have near the butterflies of a freshman. But I want those three getting work. Nothing against AC, Bouman, or anyone else, but the quicker these freshman get thrown in the fire, the better in the long run. Limit their innings/pitch counts, but let them start.

I posted this in another thread, but it belongs here too. As you might expect by looking at our schedule, we ended up with the most Thursday series of any SEC team, though only one is at home. Here are the number of Thursday series each team has:

LSU - 5
Alabama - 4
Arkansas - 4
Mississippi State - 4
Kentucky - 3
Ole Miss - 3
South Carolina - 3
Tennessee - 3
Texas A&M - 3
Auburn - 2
Florida - 2
Georgia - 2
Missouri - 2
Vanderbilt - 2

Sunday is the easiest chance for me to make it up to BR so the new schedule is brutal for me. Still gonna try to make more than I did last year. If gas holds under $2 that would encourage some weeknight trips.
