What we already know: Nick Storz pitching tonight

Also: Coomes has been cleared to play and Smith has started throwing. He will take cuts next week. They're aiming for the TAMU series to bring him back.

My original thinking was that he would be close to ready around then, but they would hold him off until the home series against Tenn. It looks like they are unconcerned with letting him comeback for a road series.

I don't have any real reasons why they would be worried about him coming back on the road or why they would prefer to have him come back at home. It was just speculation based on anecdotal memories of the way some teams/orgs do things.

I'm anxious to see what the hell pulmonary does with this lineup once Smith comes back. Reid just keeps producing at the plate and Hughes has been fairly consistent lately, but not great. Maybe Smith goes to 3rd and Reid DH's?

I can't see Reid at DH. I think that spot is almost always going to be filled by Beau or Bryce, and maybe Bain.

I agree with that statement. Maybe Smith goes back to SS and Hughes plays that "filler" role again. Hughes' defense has been suspect lately as well.

@_Andrew_Lopez

Updates:

Nick Storz will make his #LSU debut tomorrow vs. Tulane.

Mainieri says maybe 1-2 innings then turn it over to Labas.

Also, Josh Smith has started playing catch. Will start swinging next week. Target is for TAMU series.

Coomes also cleared. He’s back today.

I just wonder how ready Smith will be. Based on his injury and the way it has been explained, he basically couldn't work out at all due to the nature of the injury. I just wonder how long it will take him to really be back to himself after such a long layoff without any physical exertion. For instance, a guy breaks his hand, he can still run and do other work to keep in shape. But when you have a back injury like his, you really can't do anything.

I think Hughes stays at short and Smith plays third. I think you'll then see a rotation of players (Bain, Slaughter, Bryce, Cabrera, and Reid) at 1B, DH, and LF depending on matchups. I think Beau stays in the lineup regardless of how thinks shake out as long as he keeps hitting. It's kind of interesting. We are very deep as in we have a lot of guys on the bench that could easily start, but we really don't have as many players as we'd like that have established themselves as sure fire starters either.

Original target was Miss St but it got pushed back a week to A&M - he actually missed a week due to illness not related to back injury

He goes back into lineup somewhere for sure

Hughes has been steady at short, if PM is worried about the injury maybe you put him back at 3rd for time being.

Took a foul ball off the mask/helmet while catching vs. Southern on March 6. Has been in concussion protocol since.
