I had a fantastic experience.

For a 7PM kick we got to a bar, im blanking on the name, at around 12PM. It had live country music with outdoor seating and inside had a bunch of TVs with all of the best games on.

Had some of the best wings of my life with buckets of cold beer that just kept coming.

Our group stayed at that bar until around 4PM. We were making our way closer to the stadium when some Florida fans pulled aside and offered us some fried fish, sliders, jello shots and to play them in a couple games of cornhole and beer pong.

We hung out there until around 6ish just watching some football, eating and drinking at their tailgate. When we parted ways they gave us a tequila shot and wished us all the best.

We got into the stadium and were seated next to the nicest Florida Alum who bought our first round of beers and cheersed us and thanked us for coming to the stadium.

LSU went on to win by 2 scores.

All around it was a great time. But then i woke up from my dream and remembered that Gainesville is a shite hole and none of that would ever happen there. Been once, it was horrible and ill never go back.

some of them are, sure. But the same can be said for all big football schools - even LSU (gasp!!).

But I sat in a UF section every year for 20 years, and for 10 of them I was wearing P&G. Sure, I got some good-natured ribbing, but I've never had a real issue.

Unless you're being an arse, their fans are just fine.

Went in 2006 and will never go back. In my experience, they don't just trash talk and taunt. The stuff they do and say to you is beyond disrespectful. They will get in your face and threaten you and your family. The problem is there's not much you can do about it. To quote Ron White: "I didn't know how many it would take to whip my arse, but i knew how many they were gonna use."

My experience as an away fan is limited to a handful of times but I feel like confrontation with opposing fans happens when people don't let shite talking roll off their backs. Obviously there can always be an outlier but in general, if you are friendly then people will be friendly back.

I've never experienced this, or anything close to this, in 20 trips to the Swamp.

the first time I ever went to a game there was with one of my best friends and his wife(both UF alums,) who was a badge carrying local ADA, of course I wore an LSU jersey, the obnoxious assholes setting around us got so bad, and 100% unprovoked, that she went to get one of the cops to have the two closest and worst offenders escorted out of the stadium

As a general rule if you go to another campus expecting it to be just like tailgating/attending a game at LSU then expect to be disappointed. Every school has different traditions/norms. It would be like an Ole Miss fan going to a visiting campus and being pissed it isn't like the grove.

As far as the game itself, I didn't feel any more uncomfortable there as any other place. Every fanbase is going to have their share of obnoxious assholes. I hate to say it, but LSU has much more than most.

The open container prohibition is real. And the overall tailgate scene isn't as widespread or vibrant as LSU on game day. But I think what makes Florida a bit different from other SEC schools is you kind of have a mix of two different cultures. North/Central Florida and South Florida. While every state has their different cultures, for the most part the students/fans at LSU, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Georgia, South Carolina, etc are "southern". With it comes more of that "southern hospitality" sentiment. At Florida you will have more of that South Florida/norther transplant influence that isn't like a lot of the south. Maybe a group you're more likely to encounter at a Buffalo Bills or Philadelphia Eagles game. That's not all bad. Just different.

I've been to a game at Mississippi St. where a pissed off fan tried to start a fight with me after a LSU win. I was at a Florida game where LSU won and the fans were still respectful. All it takes is one a-hole to give someone a lifetime characterization of a group comprised of thousands of people.

I feel the fraternities are the only area of Gainesville that feels south Florida guido

The rest of it is redneck southern as hell. And for whatever reason I have always felt lsu would be ranked 2 on the Sec scale for most guido looking people.
