LSU at Houston basketball -must buy tickets for 3 games to get ticket for LSU --

Here's the email that I received from UH ticket office...I send email asking, "When is UH planning to place the LSU game on the website for single ticket sales? Thanks"
Billy,
We will not be having single game sales for LSU, for 2 reasons:
1- We have placed the LSU game to be only purchased in a 3 game pack to help discourage LSU fans from purchasing tickets. We want to create an environment for that game in which we have the majority of those attending being U of H fans. A large number of LSU fans called inquiring about tickets for this game before we heard anything from our fan base, which resulted in this policy being instituted.
2- Our student athletes have been working far too hard to be playing in front of as lowly attended crowds that they have the past couple of years. By the 3 pack policy in place it will help with attendance for 2 other games this year. The boys have been working extremely hard this year and their 5-0 record shows that they deserve the support of our fans for more than just one game this season.
If you would like to risk it you can attempt a walk up purchase on game day, but that will only be happening if there are seats still available. We have priced the packs that you will be receiving 3 games for the price of only 2, so you will also be getting a discount by taking advantage of the package. If you would like to purchase the 3 game pack I would be more than happy to assist you in doing so. All of my contact information is in my signature below. Thanks so much for your support, and we hope to see you at some of our games this year!

They are only averaging 1,843 fans per game this year.
In 2011, they only drew 4,257 for our game with them.
There is NO interest in basketball for Cougar High in the city of Houston.

I respect the hustle. Have to maintain the home court advantage.

So what happens when a bunch of LSU fans buy the 3 game pack and don't go to the other 2 games? How do all those empty seats look?

It's the mid major way of life, Tulane does it all the time, can't blame them, it is their home game. If you are dying to go do the 3 game pack, it would still be pretty cheap. Otherwise, take a risk with a walkup crowd but Simmons is still a big draw for the average fan.

Who wants to watch that shite anyway?

If anything it will hurt attendance overall. The vast majority of people are going to either 1. Not buy the 3 game package at all and just watch the game on TV because they feel like they're wasting money on two extra games that they have no interest in attending, 2. Buy the ticket package to see the LSU game and do nothing with the other 2 sets of tickets, or 3. Buy the package and sell singles on stubhub for a profit
I would bet that there's no more than a 5% increase in attendance for the other games over this plus it makes Houston's athletic department look like a bunch of childish incompetent idiots who are desperate to get people to go to their games. Not a good look IMO but it is what it is

Prob a lot like they do for all of their other games.

I bought a a pair of tickets to that game through stub hub for $20 each. So not only will they not get money from direct ticket sales with this policy since nobody will buy the package, LSU fans will still be able to get singles to the game.

Here is my email response back to the UH ticket office.
Thank you for your email. As a Houstonian, and now retired coach & prinicpal, who has attended and cheered for the Cougars my entire life, except when they play my alma mater, I am very disappointed to read your response. I have attended a game at Hofheinz this year to see how Coach Sampson is doing against Prairie View and there were only 1223 there. That was disappointing for the kids who work their tails off. I honestly don't see that many fans at the game as when we last played here on November 29, 2011, there were only 4257 in attendance. I probably would attend at least two more UH games, but I don't make the decision to go until the day of the game.
I respect the decision made by the UH administration, but am disappointed in that. I hope you are able to have a full house at the game, but I seriously doubt it. I'll stay home in Sugar Land and listen on the radio.

Meh. He's probably not that worried about the attendance as long as they sell more tickets. If people are going to buy the 3 game package (for the price of 2 games) just to attend the LSU game, then they are making twice the revenue. They were most likely not going to sellout/sell those tickets for the other games, so it's not like it's going to hurt the attendance anyway.

That feeling will be offset by the $$ they make on it

Guess he didn't realize Houston is LSU Alumni's largest chapter.
What a stupid rule for the record.
