while laffy has a world class water ski team, lsu does not .How many of those kids are from
Louisiana ? Not many most are from europe and south america, same with ULM . gotta get your nat.
championships from somewhere! BTW LSU only has a
club not a real team.

I agree, but if your gonna start an argument, take the 2 seconds to google what you are talking about to get your facts straight.

As a side note, if there were a flagship campus of the University of Louisiana system, wouldn't Louisiana Tech, a school with a better academic reputation and larger endowment, be a better choice than ULL?
nowadays it would be UNO... solely due to location

I don't know which is worse, the OP for thinking all LSU fans have an obsession with ULL, or ULL fans insecurity

LSU seems to feel threatened when ULL does well.
Seriously?
They're still USL.
There is no USL obsession just irritation at a bunch of wannabe's.
USL, LaTech? It's all horse shite. No one really wants them and they are not players on the national stage and never will be.

LSU fan and alum here;
ULL doesn't really bother me one way or the other. Like lots of other people, I quietly pull for them when they do well (say, make a minor bowl or get into the baseball or basketball tourney), but when we play them they're just another mid-major opponent.

I'm not reading 13 pages, but I DNGAF about UL, ULL, OO-La-La. IMHO, ULL is way more obsessed about LSU.

Easy man. Big XII reps might be lurking.

The name thing just seems ridiculous to me, however. The insistance of being called "UL" just screams inferiority complex. It's difficult to comprehend people complaining about their university being called its actual name.
Okay great. So then sportscasters should say "Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College at Baton Rouge" instead of "LSU," eh?
Our official university name is "The University of Louisiana at Lafayette." I'm not denying that and I'm proud of it. So this looking for an "official name change" is a myth and misunderstanding.
"The University of California at Berkeley" is called "Cal" and while it is a not a huge, "major" university, you have "Ohio," which of course is not nearly as large or does it have the high profile athletic program of Ohio State.
Yes, we are rightly pushing for a cleaner nickname. I'm tired of these dumbass ESPN announcers tripping all over "Loo-wees-eee--anna Laf-FY-yetttee" or calling us "Lafayette," which is a college in Pennsylvannia. "Louisiana" is cleaner and more efficient nickname. Schools and companies do it all the time for branding reasons.
As far as promoting the nickname, I do indeed fail to understand the LSU obsession. We're in a different system and it has nothing to do with LSU.

Yup, pretty much the same and ULL has a larger alumni base with a lot more gas/oil money. LA Tech is doing pretty well for themselves being a smaller school and having a smaller alumni base. Lets not forget Tech is also a tier one school as ULL is not.
Tech is doing more with less. Couldn't say the same for ULL. They tend to spend most of its revenue on hair gel, affliction shirts and steriods.

But here is what you DONT get, LSU is a state approved name as "UL" isn't.
This mythical "UL" university you refer to does not exsist

Not only that, the examples he gives are not apples to apples with this situation, not even close. Ohio university, while not on the same level of athletics as OSU, has a huge academic name for itself in the state of Ohio. In fact, it is the oldest university in Ohio and the ninth oldest college in the entire U.S.
Cal University at Berkeley is one of the most prestigious universities on the west coast. It is also the oldest of the 10 colleges in the University of California system as well as being designated the Flagship university of that system.
Great apples to apples examples though.

Unlike LSU, Cal, Texas, and other schools not often referred to/known by their full legal names, ULL is not the flagship institution of its system.
Posted on 5/29/13 at 8:56 am to ItsThatDude12
I've always been a fan of both schools, and I root for both, but if LSU is playing against ULL, I go for LSU. Nothing against ULL, but I'm a little bit more of a Tiger fan. It is awesome to see UL's football program having finally turned a corner and I hope they continue to do well!
