i dunno why everyone is trying to make this a racial issue ... this is all on roger cador ... manieri offered him a game on april 6th at the box and cador said if manieri couldn't give him a return trip to lee hines field he didn't want to play the game ... it seems cador is operating under some assumption that this series is a 2-for-1 series, meaning for every two games played at the box, one is played at southern .. but if you look at the history of the series since bertman arrived and in particular, the last five years, there is NO pattern obvious in the series ... LSU played them there in 2008 ... cador's just short on cash this season and decided he wanted a game at lee hines .. he claims the older fans were looking forward to it because "that is the only game they will come to" -- hence my earlier post about the bullshite that is the "jaguar nation" ... well, whose fault is that that older jags fans will only go to a southern game if it is a home game against LSU ? bertman told manieri he has to at least play 35 home games at the box to financially make the thing work with the new box ... the NCAA mandates only 56 regular season games .. you have to play 15 road games in the SEC and 15 home games .. so this only leaves you with 26 regular season games to get another 20 home games in ... this leaves you with only 6 road dates for non-conference .. the home and home with tulane wipes out 1 and the wally pontiff classic takes up another .. so that now only leaves 4 road dates ... plus, we are playing extra home games .. it just doesn't work and cador has NO leverage in the deal .. bottom line, it was his decision, not manieri's not to play in 2010 ...

That's true, but LSU's Athletic dept is one business. This business must conform to certain requirements to the SEC and the NCAA. "Welfare" does come into play when meeting these requirements. Our football program carries much of this burden, but it's a cost to do business. Playing at Southern is not a required burden. In addition, playing meaningless away games produces less revenue for LSU in which the shortage will be passed on to the consumer buying football tickets and parking. That is how "welfare" works basically in all of its forms.
In sum, the LSU football fan will be pulling the wagon for all of these burdens. Basically, think of LSU football as the working man.

I totally agree with this. I don't even care that LSU Football has to pay for all others. For many schools it is basketball.
If Cador wants to make the budget he should look within Southern. Maybe tell them to close the Shreveport campus. I'm sure those students could go to LSU-S or Northwestern or Tech or ULM or Grambling or LSU-A.

Love Roger Cador and I think SU baseball is cute. But if I'm not mistaken, didn't LSU donate the scoreboard and bleachers to that sandlot Southern calls a baseball field? Jags should be grateful for all the support that LSU has given them through out the years.

If it's true the world changes, then why do we still have to worry about having historically black colleges? Shouldn't everybody have to change?
LSU is a historically white college.
There were all once predominantly one race;southern is open to all folks

Why has this thread turn into a thread of racial hatred? An idiot can read between the lines and see what is being implied when they use the word welfare with Southern in the same sentence. I'm white and people are bitching about Southern needing to close some of its campuses. In all fairness LSU needs to close some of theirs. Why can't the students at LSU-S go to Tech, Northwest, etc. If Southern students can do it than why not LSU's?

Its quite clear that "welfare" is not all that you and your group of cohorts hate. Warning: Hate eats you from the inside out.

I assume that is a rhetorical question, right? If you jump in a snake pit, you get bitten.

Here is the race issue if you want to go there....Yeah, lets let the small fish in the pond, Roger Cador, pull a Jesse Jackson type of move on LSU. Sounds great. Now if you want to make this a race issue that is the race issue. You little wankers who think Southern is on the right side of this issue can side with them. LSU is well within their business rights and does not owe Southern a thing. LSU is THE ONLY FISH in this pond. LSU dictates what's going to happen. That applies to Tulane, ULL,ULM, SU, and the rest of the crappy schools this state has to offer.

I agree LSU needs for the Football and Baseball (basketball?) to be very profitable to support the many other non-profitable programs at school. Cador and all the other La. schools should be happy to get LSU to play them when they can. " Beggers aren't choosers' ,Couch Cador.

I would think LSU92 implies that I graduated from LSU in 1992. If not, there you have it.

That applies to Tulane...crappy schools
Since when is Tulane crappy?
Even if you want to say their athletics department as whole is crappy, you'd obviously have to leave the baseball team out of that discussion. The baseball team has been excellent for a long time now, and since they've beaten LSU on a few occasions as of late, I'm not sure you'd want to label them as 'crappy'.
If you're talking 'crappy' academics, then I will just regard everything you say from now on as complete shite.

This is a board dealing with athletics. Tulane guys can beat their chests about academics and I won't knock it. I used to go to Tulane/UNO baseball games in the late 70's and early 80's. Believe me LSU was the third wheel back then. Tulane/ UNO in the Superdome was big business and passionate.
Today, that simply does not exist. UNO is on life support. Tulane is a decent program that feels they need to double ticket prices when LSU comes to town. That is fine I guess. I hope they don't cry if LSU dumps them off the schedule. LSU did it in basketball in the 80's and football in the 90's. Today, LSU is the big fish and they make the rules. If any of these other programs could create a better deal they would. The truth is they can't. They need to accept the pecking order and be happy with what LSU gives them.
Skip Bertman was more than generous with all these schools in terms of playing them multiple times per season. Lets not forget also get a decent payday in football from time to time.

Who the hell else are we going to play for mid-week games?
You act like we're Santa Claus on Christmas morning - handing out gifts and getting nothing in return. Let's remember we play other state schools for a multitude of reasons that do not include JUST adding dollars to their AD.
It gives LSU a chance to get games in between SEC weekends.
It allows LSU to be seen by fans/alum by fans that live in other cities.
And, since LSU is the flagship school of the state with a perennial top baseball program, yes...I think they should travel to some other LA cities to let them see what that kind of team looks like.
