While I see where you are coming from, I think you are wrong.

ESPN runs college football now. Conference championships mean nothing to teams like Bama, USC, Texas, Ohio State, Notre Dame, etc.

Bama's win in 2011 will justify ESPN putting their tier 1 media darling in the title game from here on out without having to earn it.

Remember, Bama got in the game last year with the weakest resume in BCSNC history, and placing third in their conference. Losing a regular season game is now a luxury for Tier 1 media darlings.

This is what I love about the rant, just when I think it can't get any more insane, we get gems like this.

Really? I'm going to Gainesville next fall for a game for the first time.

I've never had a bad road trip to Gainesville.

The only thing they're strict on is drinking. You can't have open containers except on the campus side of University Blvd.

I saw an LSU guy get ejected from the stadium for having booze in his drink. He was not causing problems, the cop was close by, saw him take a sip, could smell the Jacky Wacky and tossed him out of the game.

By the way, the LSU FL game is often the same week as Gay Awareness and they fly Gay Pride/Awareness banners across the main drag.

And of course the home office gives them whey they want.

True. The permanent crap was set up to give bama and auburn an edge.

I want to do it while preserving rivalries since that is one of the things that makes college football so special.

Agreed. One of the things that hurt the (former) Big-12 was the dissolution of the OU-Neb rivalry - truly one of CFB's great rivalries. The SEC needs to preserve its rivalry games.

I would love for us to continue playing UF every year.

While it will make our schedule easier I wish we would keep the game. I've enjoyed the series and that overall it makes LSU Football better in the long run.

Gosh, there are some poor typos in that article. As a ranter, I make my share, but these guys should have editors for articles like this that will get lots of exposure.

Me either. Probably my favorite road trip. Fans can be annoying but they certainly aren't the worst out there. The bars are a lot of fun too.

Total fallacy. That played no role in the problems with the Big 12. In regards to that rivalry, both teams understood the gains from a larger conference and some of the sacrifices that needed to be made.

I didn't see anything I disagreed with in the part of his post you quoted. Are you saying it's insane to believe that Alabama didn't deserve to be in the NC game but was given their slot because of their media appeal? Because that's basically what he said, and it's 100% dead-on accurate.

I suspect that the only way we won't be playing UF every year is if cross-divisional rivalries are done away with.

I hope so. I'd hate to just lose the Florida rivalry but still have a perennial game with one of the other East teams.

If Bama has an easier road to Atlanta in a given year then so be it. It won't always be that way.

Maybe not every single year, but most of the time it will. Florida is the strongest program in the East, and over time, it will be the most successful. Whoever in the West plays them every year will have a tougher time than the other West teams. And "so be it" is not the appropriate response to the observation that Alabama is being given an advantage.

That said, I still hope we keep playing Florida every year, IF the SEC is going to keep perennial inter-divisional rivalries. My first choice would be to do away with them altogether, for everyone.

Got a ticket for open container ( I know I'm stupid for not knowing the law). But the worst part of the trip was the gay and lesbian parade was the same weekend.

So, seeing some gays and lesbians was worse than getting a ticket and having to pay a fine? Wow, that's like closeted gay level homophobia there.

In 1991 SEC Meetings pondering the ramifications of USC and Arkansas entering the Conference, Joe Dean did not want this annual series dumped on us but was powerless to do anything about it.

I have never heard of that in the 20+ years that have passed since then. LSU wanted to keep its perennial games with both Florida and Kentucky. In 2002, when we had to drop one of them, we dropped Kentucky. Your post is the first I've ever heard of LSU trying to get out of playing Florida in either 1992 or 2002.

After SEC Expansion we subsequently got our arse whipped 10 out of 12 meetings by them

As bad as we were from 1992 through 1999, we would have lost about the same amount to Tennessee, Georgia, etc. Remember we also played Kentucky every year for a while, too, and didn't fare all that well against them, either. We were 3-5 vs. Kentucky from 1992 through 1999.

Last year was a fluke, if you don't win the SEC you have virtually no shot at the BCS CG.

The voters just flat-out handed the #2 ranking to Alabama when they clearly did not deserve it. That's an intentional act, which is, by definition, not a fluke. It means they will continue to do it. Saban will beg for special treatment, ESPN will champion the cause, and the voters will fall in line with it. There's nothing fluky about that. It's pure corruption, and that's not a one-year phenomenon.

If the current playoff being discussed become reality, you will have to win the SEC CG to play for the BCS CG.

That's why it won't.
