In the case of LSU, the Tigers need just about everybody to lose, and even then it might not be enough.
The best-case scenario for LSU, which was No. 5 this week in the BCS standings, would be for Auburn to lose to both Alabama and South Carolina and Oregon to lose that Dec. 4 game at Oregon State.
Then, LSU might have a chance to work its way up into one of those top two spots in the final BCS standings if the Tigers can beat Arkansas on Saturday and finish 11-1.
That would be a fifth win over a nationally ranked opponent for LSU, which would have also won its last four games. So the Tigers' résumé would certainly make them deserving.
However, if Auburn were to lose this Friday at Alabama and then win the SEC championship game, I think Auburn would still be ranked ahead of LSU in the final polls because Auburn won the head-to-head matchup earlier this season.

If auburn is blown out and we win against arky then i don't see how we won't jump auburn in BCS. Our computer rankings are fricking incredible and the only thing keeping us in the race. If we somehow manage to move up a spot in the human polls then I believe we could slip into #2 or #3.
Go Wolfpack, Tide, Wildcats

Even if we pass them temporarily, it is the final BCS standings that matter. So let's think about what happens after Auburn were to beat SC in the SECCG
(1) Auburn would almost definitely be higher than LSU in the computers. Better record (12-1)/tougher schedule. They would have beat South Carolina a second time, and Clemson is just as good as WVU
(2) I'll be shocked if the humans after the SECCG don't put the 12-1 SEC Champs that beat LSU over the 11-1 SECW runner ups. And they only need about 40% of them to do so because of (1)

I think we should keep in mind the polls are not coming from just SEC fans. Yes, our conference has had some extreme dominance the past decade, but that only gets you so far. Meaning in this year, there will be every attempt by objective voters to put Auburn (the best possible SEC champ) into the title game.
Outside of that, we have to accept there is a "glass ceiling" facing LSU in the human polls. We have one loss, yes; but we aren't even in the SEC championship. We have no way to be SEC champs. So I think we're sitting at no higher than 4th overall at the most, behind Auburn (SEC), Oregon (Pac 10) and Wisconsin (Big 10). Fair is fair; they will have won their conferences with records at least equal to us (assuming everyone wins out). If Wisky slips but Ohio St is 11-1, again look for the Buckeyes to move up. Don't be too shocked and indignant if Oklahoma St jumps us if they win out and go 12-1.
And again, everything is shaping out to be fair. The way things stand, an SEC team (Auburn) is in line to be playing for the BCS, and an SEC team (LSU) is currently the 1st "also-ran" in. Just don't expect us to bump conference champs in order to play for the NC, if some weird things happen this weekend. Part of the reason the SEC has had that run is that nothing weird has knocked the top team out of contention.
Now, if we were in the East, we'd be looking to finish out 11-1, and then the SEC championship would be a playoff for the NC. But it ain't that way.

I have heard numerous places that Auburn will likely stay ahead of LSU in the rankings should Bama beat Auburn and LSU beat Arkansas
No.
That's why the Auburn-Alabama game is irrelevant to us. The game LSU needs Auburn to lose is the SECCG.
Auburn loses that game and all LSU needs is for either Boise or Oregon to lose one game, or for the voters to move us ahead of either Boise or TCU (longshot but could happen), and we're
GOIN' TO THE SHIP!!!
