I would guess the majority of the people he will charge will cut back in other areas like car insurance and doctor visits.

We laugh, but we know its true.

Alleva has learned by now how much of a priority tailgating and going to these games is for thousands of people, and he's exploiting that.

Great points. I aree. I will not be donating my "extra donations," such as Team TAF or every year I make an additional donation to either the baseball or basketball team due to increased expenses for parking in the future. So in summary, he increases overall revenue for the athletic department but hurts other areas in the athletic department at the same time.

If I came in here wanting to "whine" I'd simply start a thread that said "Alleva SUCKS!!!"

I don't know what you donate to baseball or basketball but I doubt it will even be noticed unless it's a substantial donation.

Where you don't donate because of parking costs, or where someone else doesn't renew/buy basketball tickets, there will be someone else to take your/their place.

I didn't renew my basketball tickets because even though I had a great deal ($200 for 2 on 5th row of 300 section), I object to putting a Tradition Fund on a team that hasn't put much of a product on the court.

If I want to go to hoops, I can always find a ticket outside, same with football and basketball.

If you don't give as much $ to TAF, you're only hurting your ranking.

And something tells me in a few years when LSU's "tough economic times" are behind them, we will see these parking charges and trailer fees reduced, right?

Don't start holding your breath on that one.

of course not, but it also won't be the death of LSU tailgating like you and Rouge like to say

I talked to numerous people this past weekend about this and didnt find the first person who agreed with it.
Its not paying to park moreso than it is the amount.
A person with a trailor and a vehicle will pay 90 bucks just to show up.
The reason have a trailor is bc they set up for alot of people who more than likely not gonna show up anymore.

Why LSU wants to discourge probably the most popular activity that it's fans do is beyond me.

Eh, people will still tailgate, but that number will be down.

Which group of people is going to stop tailgating? The 92,600 that buy season tickets, parking passes etc., tailgate every weekend, every year and go to the games? Or the other 90,000 (estimated) that come onto campus grounds for games like Florida or Bama towing a trailer that takes up an additional parking spot, park for free, throw themselves a nice party and either watch the game on TV at their free parking spot or leave before kickoff to watch it at a local watering hole? Oh, and leave a nice chunk of garbage for the university to clean up on Sunday. Point being, I think your core fans are still going to be there. The ones you lose will probably be more of the second group that are only there for the party.

I don't have a gripe about paying to park but, then again, I've been paying for parking for a long time. What I do have a problem with is that it's not reserved. If I'm going to pay $40 to park, I would at least like to know that I have a spot.

And that is why they will keep looking at adding costs to the end user.

But Bye Rye you don't get it... at some point, no matter what, each family has to look at their budget and see what they can and can't do the next year. Most have squeezed their budget due to the economy to keep LSU tickets in there. That might not be the case. With the Bush tax cuts like expire without renewal in 6 weeks and the talk of also adding price to the actual game day tickets (see last week Buddy Songy show)... it is hard to swallow and it has been crammed down the customers throats so yes, it has not been handled very well by LSU. I do think it dramatically affects next years game days but may level off once people see what they can and can't do. I know it may very well force our 15 year tailgating crew to change next year. But...it is what it is right?

It almost certainly will impact tailgating.

We talked about it extensively at ours this past weekend.

Looks like ours may be reduced by 2/3. We have a group of 20 (LSU alums) that come from New Orleans who tailgate and watch the game on tv at the tailgate. They will not be coming. A host of others said the same thing too. We decided on only doing 4 tailgates.

Western Kentucky is going to be empty on campus and in the stadium

Mud, not being crude but you made my point for me. You've got 20 alums that won't go to the game but expect LSU to give them a free spot (two spots, with a trailer) to throw a party so they can watch it on TV and then have to pay to dispose of the additional waste?

Someone tell me exactly what the additional "tailgating" alone does for the university? It sounds to me like a cost to the university which they are trying to recoup through parking fees (which honestly are a bit expensive).

The others schools in the SEC charge for parking. Why don't you ask Bama fans what they pay to park on or near the campus. The parking charge will not affect tailgating in the least. If people wish to stop their tailgating activities by not going to the games, then I can assure you that there will be more than enough fans to pay the fee and take the various parking slots. It's the same with season tickets. The waiting list is over a mile long and they will have more than enough fans that will be willing to grab them up. I've been a member of the alumni association and TAF for a number of years now. I don't plan on reducing my contribution because of a parking fee. Times are tough all over and people will just have to put their priorities in place.

I host the tailgate and have 2 trailers I bring to the game to tailgate.

I have my own trash cans and dispose of all my trash in a nearby dumpster. There is not one single bit of trash when we leave.

So LSU only wants people who have tickets to tailgate and have a good time?

It was a stupid move on LSU's part. It's like the federal government raising taxes during a recession. You don't go to the people footing the tab, you cut cost in other area's which they could clearly do.

I live near Burbank-Bluebonnet. Last few games I could have walked from my house the cars were parked so far down Burbank. I personally know 3 people who have said, "Enough is Enough".

Of course they will never admit that it hurt, just as tounces hurt, they will simply find another way to increase some other fee. You must understand, they don't give a damn. LSU atheletic department, just as big companies are controlled by bean counters (I know, I am manager in big company)and all they care about is the money.

Airline engines fail
Toyota recalls
Tainted drinking cups from China
Tainted toys from China
Bad sheet rock

It goes on and on and it will get worse.

$20. Up from $10 in 2009.

No additional charge for a trailer and there are options to buy a season pass.

Auburn on campus is Season Reserved or free.

UF is season reserved or free.

Ole Miss is season reserved or free.

Future, the Hayfield lot will cost $20.

I may need to move the tailgate to burbank and nicholson just to watch the clusterfrick unfold for the first game.

keep in mind the same folks who are implementing the new parking regs are the same people who think toonces was the best marketing decision the school has ever done because it has sold the most merchandise.

LSU is simply out of touch with its fans

So you admit you take up four parking spots (two vehicles and two trailers) and if you've got 20 other people coming to watch it on TV, that's another 8-10 spots that some other fan that would like to attend the game now can't use. That is the general reason people head to campus on those 7 or so Saturdays each fall - to ATTEND the football game.

That dumpster still has to be emptied at a cost to someone (LSU). The disposal fee is based on weight. It costs to get rid of your party waste whether you put it in a dumpster or not. Multiply that times the amount of people not paying for seats, parking, RV's etc.

Does LSU want only people with game tickets on campus? I can't answer that. However, I bet they would like to have some parking left for the people that DO want to attend the games and make a little extra revenue to help with associated game-day issues (i.e. traffic).
