How much money did LSU make off of your BBQ pit, charcoal, propane burner, 100 lbs of ground meat, 8 kegs, 4 tents, and 40 lawn-chairs? None. How much money did LSU make when your wife came by to eat with the kids on a Saturday afternoon? None. If NO ONE tailgates for a game, not one person, how much money do you think LSU would lose? None.

I'm guessing those State Sales Taxes I pay on each of those items goes solely to the Govnah's helicopter, right?

I, for one, have absolutely no problem with the idea of parking fees for tailgating (however, I disagree with there plan for implementation).

I think it accomplishes several critical items:

1) it helps to pay for clean up, the state that some groups leave the campus in most games is horrendous, maybe people would start being a little more neat

2) gets rid of these idiots who think they can show up by themself at 7am and place chairs or coolers in "reserved" spots, the audacity of these assholes is amazing, should be first come, first served

3) limits the other idiots who think they can pull into a parking lot and double-park several people into their spaces, a friend of mine who tailgates with me is notorious for doing this and, on several occasions, neighboring tailgaters were blocked in for some time until he finally decided to show back up from Serrano's after going their after the game.

Not many are bitching about charging a parking fee.

Its a little unrealistic to go from $0 to $40.
Why not start off at a lower amount then go up to $40 in a couple of years?

The problem is the method they plan on implementing to collect money.

I propose LSU offer a tag to buy to hang in your car for each of the lots.

Offer it up to anybody to buy beforehand for a season at the ticket office.

Pay $15 per game for a season. 6 games x $15 = $90

A $75 permit allows you to bring a trailer for 6 games.

If you do not buy a season parking you pay for parking the day of te game for $20.

attendants see the color tag and waive you on through to park instead of each person giving money. You will have those that will pay the $20 the day of the game but it shouldnt be so many to causes traffic delays.

This will eliminate the long lines of people collecting monies for each and every car and LSU makes money from parking.

LSU can put the parking monies into an account and earn interest throughout the season.

Damn, this thread has taken off since last night!

I like the idea of a pre-purchased pass, Mud. Actually, the entire post has merit. However, I'm still not in favor of the trailers being charged any less than another vehicle. You are occupying another spot that someone could park in. If you occupy two spots, you should pay for two spots. If you choose to have a tailgate party that requires two trailers to haul all of the necessities, pay accordingly (or downsize).

Should cut back on piping in music...let the band play and save some electricity...no wait lets charge money to have someone park a mile away from the stadium in a cow field. Nice.

This is bad for LSU and should be talked about until there is a change. What voice do the fans have. It is the dollar. So cut back on what you give to LSU. Park in the surrounding neighborhoods and let them feel the pinch in their greedy LSU pockets.

seriously - who is really going to quit tailgating? the damn flatscreens in the tents cost more than a season of parking fees

don't like being nickle and dimed to death. don't like the idea of 5am saturday to get pass when also on sale friday at 5pm. sometimes can't got he day before. the $1900 taf mandatory donation for 2 seats should get you a place to park 3/4 of a mile from the stadium.

fricking hilarious. Truly. Greedy LSU, the last school in the SEC to charge for parking on gameday. How dare they.

State Sales Taxes I pay on each of those items goes

4% sales tax. 4 cents of every dollar goes to the State. Of the State's budget of roughly $9 billion for FY 09-10, $1 billion went to the LSU system. Lets assume LSU gets half (they actually account for about 43-45% of the LSU System expenses). So, LSU gets $500M out of the $9 billion. Keep in mind that LSU athletics do not get any money from the State. So LSU, as a university, receives 5.55% of the State's revenues.

If you spend $90 on a car and trailer parking pass for one game, LSU receives all of the revenue. For LSU to receive $90 from sales taxes, you would need to spend $40,500 on merchandise. Your argument holds no water buddy.
