How much longer are these games compared to Ncaa rules?
They aren't. NCAA has 2 - 20 min halfs. These games have 4 - 10 minute quarters. Both 40 minutes. However there is a 24 second shot clock rather than NCAA's 30 second shot clock.

Only 9 turnovers this game, Simmons with just 2 of those...MUCH MUCH better
Didn't fall quite in love with the 3 ball as much as we did that one game we lost either...although we havent shot the 3 well at all in any game, likely due to the line being a little further back.

Yea, you're right. I personally view it more negatively, but like you said, just a difference of opinions.
Point stands, he's a baller now

The problem for this team won't be scoring, it will be defense. We've got no one who can guard the post effectively. Victor helps, but he's not much of a "banger" on the inside. That is going to be this team's downfall when we play teams that are more balanced.
Our best defense against a big banger down low will be to tire him out. We will run. If you've got a guy who can run with us, it's unlikely he will be too big for our guys to handle. If he is bigger than we can handle in the post, we will run him into the ground with our pace.

Sampson was a huge pickup late with the turnover at St Johns, he will likely stick around longer than Blakeney.
Nice to see Epps with a productive game, he and Victor might be the key to this team when the other bigs get in foul trouble

I've said it all week, I really hope our starting lineup on Nov 13th is Q, Blakeney, Hornsby, Simmons, Epps. I think that squad epitomizes what Jones wants.

Offense will not be a problem, defense will not be a problem.
The problem that any team with the mixture of guys we have will be consistency and cohesion. Roles will change throughout the year, guys will step up, some will have games where they just do not play up very well. Its not because of effort, athleticism, or talent, but simply the growing pains of a rising program on the national scene. We struggled last year with timely buckets and important stands. Ask anyone one of the hardest things to do in sports whether its 7 year olds to pros, is stop the other teams momentum when everything is seemingly going their way. We have to be better at stringing together complete offensive games, and not be a team of spurts that combine in total to be a high powered offense. Defensively, same as on offense, need better consistency getting timely rebounds and blocks from our bigs, and we could be the best teamin America at turning our defense into offense.
I really think it will be a great year, too early for anyone to give hard predictions, but getting better each game, building momentum towards the end, and honestly more than anything the whole team buying in to the one goal. As cliche as it sounds, they are young men, not just names, stats, and projections on paper.
Goals have never changed, the goal last year was to win the SEC, win every game at home, and get into the NCAA tournament with the best seed as possible and ultimately win a national championship. They did not say it everyday last year, but that was the understood goal, this year it feels real to say and believe. Where as last year everyone still felt we were growing as a program.

I agree, and I know you know more than anybody about the team. Early on I think that group finishes every game, and who finishes late in the season if Epps can keep up this development and production. To start I think Malone starts over Epps, and when Victor becomes eligible, Coach Jones will simply slide him into Darcys spot. Just seeing how he has done it thus far, and it makes a lot of sense to not change Epps role and to always have a game changer off the bench because of his versatility. To start games it maximizes what Ben will be able to do and continue it as subs start early on.

Epps has to play more this year. His conditioning and knee should be much better

But out of a Melbourne timeout, United hit back-to-back threes and led 42-36, forcing Coach Jones to call a timeout of his own. From there, LSU went on a 20-8 run the rest of the quarter to open a 56-50 halftime lead. Helping lead the charge was Epps who had a great final five minutes of the half.
So Johnny Jones called a timeout at the right time to shift momentum. Hopefully this year CJJ will finally start using his timeouts when he needs them.

I thought Victor was your typical "banger" down low. What kind of player is he?

That's the concern. LSU won't necessarily play a lot of teams with big time centers, but teams are going to attack the rim against LSU with no inside presence but for Simmons and Victor when he's back. Guards were sometimes reluctant to go inside knowing that Mickey was waiting. That's not the case anymore. Just look at the stats from last night, the opponent shot 36 FTs. Now some of that is probably due to the stricter foul calls in international basketball, but no one gets that many attempts without making it an emphasis to get to the rim.

Personally I think Victor has the body to defend in the post. but he is still a slender option down there. Should be strong though.

We are going to shoot a good bit of 3's this year and Im ok with that as long as the right people are taking them.

And a different ball. Im sure playing at 4am baton rouge time doesnt help either

Why do people claim Victor is not a "banger"? Jones has said on record that Victor is the toughest and meanest player on the team. He will mix it up.

With Epps stepping up on the rebounds, this team is starting to remind me of the Louisville team with never nervous Pervous Ellison that one the National Championship. No player on that team was over six foot eight and none shorter than about six foot five. They could fly and any of them could crash the boards at any time. Gave opponents fits in ability to defend them.
I know we have players shorter than six foot five and Ben is six foot ten, but the speed and movement will really be fun to watch.
